ParticipantOne of the many great things about the annual Great Pumpkin Race in Warrenton VA…besides the food…are the costumes & theme – appropriate cycling gear

ParticipantWe had 7 hardy souls (haha – Halloween! Get it?) on the Midnight Saddles ride. I went as a skeleton:

(L-R: Chris, klizotte, Tania, Al, kwark; not pictured: Steve O & Bill. Sorry, Chris, for your blurriness)Weather was perfect for a fall night ride, although we did get chilly sitting outside with our breakfasts.
Very fun ride straight down Wisconsin to get back in. Nothing like having the streets of DC mostly to yourself.

ParticipantNice meeting you all last night! Glad to see a certain scary owl didn’t take you out. Taking metro home last night was an experience. Lots and lots of people wearing costumes so it was fun. A guy was even dressed up as a giant banana!

ParticipantFirst SteveO, yesterday was All Saints Day, so your souls were too early for today’s All Souls Day (or Dia de los Muertos).
I accompanied my wife to Garmisch for a conference and I get to go out and have fun on bikes in the mountains. I rented a Trek Marlin 7, 27 speed 29er for two days from the hotel and will rent a Cervelo (not sure which model) from a local bike shop on Wednesday when I try to get my November imperial century ride in. Today was Coffeeneuring #9 and my Ride your Age on you Birthday (kilometers, not miles this year). I had mapped out a 30 mile route that was at least half gravel forest roads from Garmisch to Krun. I didn’t read the elevation profile correctly and was surprised to encounter about 1800 feet of climbing from mile 2.8 to mile 6.2 (an average of 10% grade, but lots at over 20% according to the Garmin) going part way up the north side of Wank Mountain. I’m not too ashamed to admitted that I walked two of the worst stretches faster than I was pedaling.

After getting back to town, i still needed about ten miles so I added a loop to Grainau.

Underground people bike too.
A few pictures of a bike in use and as a background prop on an indie movie shoot in the abandoned Dupont Underground (but soon to reopen as an arts center of some sort?).

Au contraire! Keep in mind that our ride started on October 31…but it ended on November 1. All bases covered.

If anyone saw the Syfy series “Continuum”, one of the main actors from that show, Luvia Petersen, is starring in the short film that was shooting in the Dupont Underground. There might be a couple scenes with someone from the forum too…

ParticipantBack out on the rented Trek Marlin 7 29er for a loop around Eibsee under the Zugspitze. 18 miles, about half of it gravel. I had thought of doing a longer ride into Austria, but didn’t want to push the steep trails in advance of my planned Wednesday century ride.
