ParticipantA couple of weeks ago, Scoot and I did a self-guided Arlington Historical Bicycle Tour. I just finished the video for it. Enjoy!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5iUr2IVp1o
I had done this ride 2 years ago but had been itching to make a new video with far less shakiness. Scoot was interested in learning more about the local history, so he joined me on the ride. He didn’t get to see the inside of the Glen Carlyn library including the preserved piece of the original GW survey marker tree because we were there before the library opened (I know my mom just fainted at the fact that I woke up early on a Saturday morning).
P.S. – I know I haven’t made an Alexandria biking video since I moved to Alexandria at the beginning of August; I PROMISE I will make some Alexandria-themed videos this year!

ParticipantNice work on this video!
Bobco85 gives me far too much credit for tagging along and absorbing the history that he shared. It was my pleasure to follow a brilliant bicycle tour guide along this route. He is a flawless navigator, extremely knowledgeable about the sites, and a joy to ride with.

ParticipantI’ve kept putting off my October century ride for no real reason, so today was the day. I started off in misty drizzle riding 33 miles west on the M06, a limited access highway. It has a good shoulder and is an easy ride even with today’s mist. I turned off at Kalyrika on thee T0-19 heading north first to Makariv. And the mist was gone, but still heavy orvercast.

Continuing on there were cornfields

After that I came to an area that clearly had had a couple of fires, possibly one in early September where the smoke affected Kyiv.

Then I arrived at the town of Borodianka

ParticipantA little while after that I came to the village of Shybene where the was a utility pole with a stork’s nest in front of a tree full of mistletoe (and no one under it to kiss).

Just north of that I was back in the forest, birch on the right, fir on the left.

At Fenevychi (mile 67) I turned west on the P02, the road that wold take me back to Kyiv. Shortly after that I crossed the Zdyzh River and noticed a tree on the bank with a rope swing. There was a man fishing in an inflatable boat by the other bank and another man fishing in a pond who had his bicycle near him (neither in the photo).

I love the contrast and perspective in this one!
The perfectionist in me wants you to take a half step to the right so that the transition between asphalt and grass/leaves is dead center, but I still love how it looks like summer on the left, autumn on the right.

ParticipantRode through the woods yesterday. A great fall day to be on a bike. I tried to capture the rich orange and green in this corner, but my iPhone can’t do it justice.

Yes, it had the best rest stop food of any organized ride that I’ve done.

ParticipantHere are my pics from the ride to Charlottesville on October 16. Glorious, glorious weather that day
Just before Braddock Road meets Route 28, the sidepath ended at this construction site. I was able to wend through the neighborhoods to get back on track.
Here’s where I stopped to eat my lunch sandwich. Pretty much exactly halfway at mile 62

Kelly’s Ford
The horses were my only company on many of these back, country roads
Made it! 123 miles.

ParticipantI rode back from Charlottesville to Arlington on Sunday, October 18. The day started chilly–in the mid- 30’s, but got up to the 50’s by the afternoon.
Long shadows and Virginia countryside in the morning
I passed by Montpelier at 9:05am, and the sign said 9-5, so I took a quick detour to get my coffeeneuring point.

The Rapidan River Company mill
I hit two gravel roads on the way down. I rerouted to miss one on the way back, but kept this 2.5 mile section of gravel, because it made the whole route work better.
Had my second lunch at the Elk Run Market and Deli. The lady there could not get her head around the idea that I was riding my bike all the way to Arlington from there.

Evidence that Boomer was indeed seen, with Captain Steve.
