Got in a couple good rides here in Nantucket…The island is a little too playground-of-the-1% for me, but it’s very nice otherwise. It’s also extremely difficult to ride on the roads, so you really have to stick to the bike paths. Thankfully, they go everywhere worth going, are in good shape, and aren’t too crowded.
I came across this car stopped in the bike lane on Long Bridge Drive

I stopped to see if they needed help. Indeed they did, they were trying to get to Gravelly Point. After failing to convince them that they could park close by and ride their bikes, I gave them driving directions and the Arlington bike map.
Finally got out of town for a ride heading north to Demtdiv. Almost a perfect day to ride, but coming back into town on the M06 was no fun as drivers were using the shoulder to pass other cars, and that’s where I was riding.

In town this is what the tram tracks crossings look like.

Don’t you just want to ride by and say something like “so, steal bikes often???” And what is up with the road bike saddle and the pedal cages on a 30 lb bike with three speeds?!? And don’t even get me started on the fact that he is proudly wearing the red, white and blue. Does not do America proud. Just sayin’

I skimmed through the site. Does he or doesn’t he have authorization to be using that bike for this long? I don’t see any statement about that on his site. If it’s gone for more than 24 hrs, it’s considered stolen or lost and he has to pay the replacement fee.
I didn’t know what to think when I saw the bike. I thought it might be part of some cross-city promotion or a sample bike, the way that Montreal has bikeshare bikes from other systems. But I guess not.
In the same sense that a stolen bike becomes the property of a thief, yes. Citi Bike isn’t intended to serve as a bike store, where you can take a bike permanently if you feel like it.
