Views from the Elliott Bay Trail along the waterfront in Seattle, near Olympic Sculpture Park and Belltown
I signed up for a 24-hr membership on their new Pronto Cycle Share system and rode around one evening and then the following afternoon. Simply breathtaking.
There was a small-sized 60s-type festival taking place nearby. All these people, apparently in their 20s, maybe 30s, were wearing a mix of casual, hipster and bohemian clothes, hanging out in a large tent or teepee, playing Frisbee, smoking marijuana (I’ve been to enough rock concerts to know what it smells like, even though I’ve never used it myself) and listening to music blasting from the large sound system. The signs indicated that the event was sponsored by the parks department of Seattle. Apparently marijuana is legal in Seattle although you’re not supposed to use it in public view. I think the Elliott Bay Trail would count as public view, but whatever. I only rode near the summer fest briefly.
I think the large peak in the 3rd picture is Mt. Olympus, based on the direction from the shore. The other well-known mountains are to the south of Seattle (Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens). I’m not sure if you can see Mt. Rainier from Seattle. Maybe from the Space Needle. It’s definitely visible from the Sea-Tac airport.
