It is a very well designed bike. The more I use it, the more I appreciate how good the design is. I believe that the owner snagged it on sale, online, for about $250.
Any idea if the owner has tried checking it as baggage on a plane or shipping via UPS? Guessing on the box dimensions needed, UPS is quoting me >$200 to send via ground to CA one way. Ouch.

Yes, the bike came with a soft carrying case and has done one cross country flight and back (on SW Airlines) without any hassles. That said, it’s heavy to lug around, so I would wheel it like a stroller and then bag it at the last possible moment, on the outbound. I would likewise take it out of the bag upon arrival at the luggage belt, and wheel it out of the airport. If it was a really big terminal, I’d be tempted to ride it inside the airport!

For $250, you can just buy the bike and have it shipped to your destination!

Have you looked into bikeflights.com? I’ve shipped my bike to/from California with them a couple of times, for about $50 each way using FedEx Ground. The rates go up quickly if you want faster delivery, though.

I saw police in the Atlanta airport riding around on bikes just this past weekend. Didn’t seem to be a problem, though I did wonder if they’d do better with road tires than knobbies.

Huey Lewis & the News will play a concert in Iowa next month to kick off RAGBRAI. (“RAGBRAI, The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state. Heading into its 43rd year, RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest and longest bicycle touring event in the world.”)

ParticipantThese two were rockin’ in front of the Gallery Place Metro station. They were actually pretty good. But it was unusual to see an African American thrash metal guitarist, although they also played Black Sabbath, a bluesy improvisation on “The Pink Panther theme” and some other pieces. I rode by a couple times. I could also hear them down the block. (I’m guessing the director of the Spy Museum could hear them too. Last year, I learned that he doesn’t like the loud bands that play in Gallery Place because he can hear them in the museum.)

I don’t know if I’ve ever ridden or walked past this building before, even though it’s very close to the Verizon Center. It’s the AARP headquarters.

ParticipantI went to the Boundary Channel Drive Interchange meeting for about half an hour. Then I got drenched in the downpour (although I didn’t bike that day) but that wasn’t going to stop me from seeing the show. Huey had a lot of energy and enthusiasm, even though he mock-complained about having to play “The Power of Love” for the past 30 years. Great show!

ParticipantThere was a crowd of excited people in front of the Supreme Court this morning. They’re sure going to be disappointed when they find out that the raisins/takings clause case was handed down earlier this week!

Dean Wilhelm Memorial Park.
This is the entire “park”. At 6th & D St. SW. Apparently it’s named for a former manager at the nearby Holiday Inn.

Perhaps this is the park equivalent to the 15 minutes of fame that everyone is supposed to get.

With some well-placed bollards. And we should put out some orange cones in the interim.
