ParticipantBeautiful sunset here in Peoria over the Illinois River this evening. Too bad I didn’t have a photo taking apparatus.

Bike and Roll is still popular with tourists, even with Capital Bikeshare stations on the National Mall. I saw a couple new bike tour competitors too, judging from company names on the guides’ shirts and on the bikes.

ParticipantYesterday was the 150th anniversary of the death of Abraham Lincoln.

The back of Ford’s Theatre, where assassin John Wilkes Booth exited and fled on a horse that was being held for him, by an unwitting employee. He rode down the alley and turned up to F Street, NW, before making his way to southern Maryland and Virginia.

Shoulda balanced your bike on a railing somewhere round there.

Pretty sure this picture was taken to satisfy the “my bike with rod” challenge. But he was too slow in post it for tag, and figured the flowers in the background were nice enough to share.

For those of you who have never been to Ithaca, NY, let me share a bit about the area. Beautiful cycling. HOWEVER. The town is essentially the bottom of a pit. Extremely flat, but every direction is pretty much straight up. 46X16 fixed is not really ideal. I had to stop and walk on one the hills I tried to go up and I got 3rd overall this year on the Strava segment.

213 feet in 0.3 miles. Also, pro tip – when you have lunch at a good brewery, it might not be the best afternoon to go do hills on a relatively tall fixed gear.

Yowza! That Tri360 hill ride would be easy for you, by comparison…maybe. Nothing as bad as that, at least. I’ll say to you what dcv said to me after the Tri360 ride: “awesome effort!” (I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean it to be condescending…:p)

ParticipantThat was the segment I had to walk. I tried, and at some point I could no longer make the pedals go forward any more.
