Getting dirty and aero in Farmville.
Beware of slow children.
Thanks for the photos, Sean! Those are really nice pics! I wish I was there, even though I’d probably be on my own since I’m a little slower and tend to get distracted by everything (especially the beautiful countryside).

ParticipantFinally finished the video from my ride down in Pinellas County, Florida, last Tuesday. I checked out a couple of the trails there and decided to go from one end of the peninsula to the other before heading south from Clearwater to St Petersburg including stops at Tropicana Field (the Pinellas Trail runs right alongside it) and the Pier before ending at Taco Bus (it’s just as awesome as the name implies).
My camera’s battery died before I made it to the Pier, so I ended the video at Tropicana Field. Also, I edited out the many stops I had to take because I was starting to overheat in the sunny 85+ degree (F) weather (thankfully Florida has lots of trees for shade).

ParticipantDirt and Sean were just riding along when all of the sudden: AERO

ParticipantIf you look real close you can see the elusive Dirt, aero-ing his way along the gravel road:

ParticipantHe..he..he… if you turn it upside down, the elevation profile on my Garmin calculator spells BOOBS

ParticipantOne last shot – swooped this from Pete’s Flickr set. Me in my happy place before suffering through two tough climbs.

ParticipantI readily admit that I’m kind of goofy-looking, but in my defense, this was something like mile 96 (more than double my longest ride prior). I was trying to smile. The ride was awesome. If anyone is ever free to fly cross-country in early May for the Wine Country Century in Santa Rosa, I highly recommend it. Really well-organized, good snacks, beautiful course, challenging but accessible for century noobs . . .
It doesn’t hurt that the finish line is just a short drive from the Russian River brewpub – if a pint of Pliny the Elder isn’t a good post-ride refreshment, I don’t know what is.
Also, when I get around to it, I’ll post my thoughts on the Skratch Labs “power bars” I made (quick version – awesome early on, later in the day I wanted something sweeter, but that might just be my preference)

Is that like wearing an Ohio State jersey into The Big House when Ohio State isn’t even playing?

ParticipantRainy day blues. At least I got my fill of sun (if there is such a thing) during last week’s very, very fun vacation rides.

ParticipantSome of you may recall my photo project that I described a few months ago. Here’s the first result of that:

You look awfully good to me, esp considering you did a century in MTB shorts (!). I don’t even see any sweat.
Next up is some spandex and shaved legs

Bib shorts underneath. Have a hard time giving up the pockets. Shaved legs is pretty unlikely – I’d probably need a belt sander (and again at mile 75).
I can assure you there was plenty of sweating, though when that picture was taken it had probably all dried in the sun.
