This appears to be the paved section, where bikes are allowed.

Dave and I went for a little shakedown ride this weekend on the C&O. Boy was I in need of some camping time.

Bikes are allowed on the paved part of the Northwest Branch Trail which is a little over 6 miles long. The unpaved hiker only trails are on the other side of the Branch and north of the Beltway.

We stopped at the northern-most paved point. Disallowing bikes on the remaining part looked mostly superfluous, as the trail was full of mud, large rocks and standing water.

sounds like it’s gotten longer. the map I was looking at didn’t show anything at all interesting on the paved portion
