This is from my ride from Sunday afternoon. A nice 42.3 mile ride after having slept in (Sunday is my designated lazy day of the week), I finally got to experience the multi-colored wonder that is the Anacostia Tributary Trail System! Shown are the Custis, C&O Canal, Capital Crescent, Georgetown Branch, Sligo Creek, NW Branch, Anacostia River, Metropolitan Branch, and Mount Vernon trails with a few bike lanes/sharrows and government buildings as well. I’ll definitely be heading that way more often on future trips, especially since there are more trails to ride!

Its like reliving a chunk of my commute any time I want now!

ParticipantLove that Hawk. I’ve seen one there too. When I saw him (or one just like him) in was the middle of winter (not this year) when everything was covered with snow. He was fat and happy. Good diet of DC rats!

ParticipantDoes the 22-lb. bag of cat food fit in my bike basket? Yes!

I made my way to Ballston from the Potomac Yard Petsmart on the 4MR and W&OD trails this afternoon while lugging this bag around. I was even able to undo the bungie net to grab my pump for a fellow cyclist who needed some air in his tire. I call it a handicap (as I discovered when I had to carry it up the stairs to my 2nd floor apartment)!

What’s holding the Cervelo up? Or the question I’m really asking – is there a good solution for parking a road bike with no kickstand in the middle of say, a garage (i.e. not near anything that it could lean against)? Extra points if it’s something we already have around the house and don’t need, like law books.

I lean mine up against my aura of smug self-satisfaction.
