You’re so right! Thanks. ….I just couldn’t resist: I felt like the rooster crowing after a deep dark night…Like the pearl diver’s surface gasp after long minutes at the bottom…like the spread wings of a caged bird set free…like…well, you know! Anyway, thanks for the thoughtful admonition.
Along the North Fork Trail near Seneca Rocks in West Virgina. Simply one of the best looking trails I have ever ridden. There is a Peregrine falcon way off in the distance in this photo.
[FONT=Helvetica, Arial, lucida grande, tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif]These are Washington DC asphalt moguls that did me in! Heading south on 15th St NW, 150 feet from Constitution Ave. The main ridge is clearly in the direction of travel (most dangerous) and from left to right the drop is two and a half to three inches! An insidious trap for any cyclist! This is exactly where the cycle lane would be if it continued south on 15th after Pennsylvania Ave, so it’s the logical place for an unsuspecting rider to be.

It might be tour buses or other very large vehicles that are causing those moguls. The same thing happens on the Ohio Drive bridge to the south of the Tidal Basin, between East Potomac Park and West Potomac Park. When the tour buses stop, they dig into the asphalt. Over time, they can create asphalt “waves” as high as a few inches or more. There are other locations in the D.C. area where this also happens, probably where tour buses tend to stop, either on a slight incline or decline.

Wow, the picutre from the hospital didn’t show up when I was at work this afternoon and I didn’t realize how serious this was. Get well soon!
