Amazing how a haircut can make you look like a new man!

ParticipantMy son drafting my wife on a family ride, how does one convice a teen that spandex is cool?
We need a family team kit.

Participantdcv, I took my son to REI and held everything up and said, “Do you like this?”, “Do you like this?” etc. until he said okay. He got a pair of sort of hipster looking shorts with a liner with a chamois (Zoic brand, I think).
But I had an LCI gig in Alexandria yesterday; we were discouraged from wearing any technical gear when teaching so I had to run through the drills, group ride and return trip home in jeans and I was hating life by the end. Don’t know how he does it.

Start with some cool looking mountain biking (double) shorts. Heck, I tend to the overstuffed burrito shape in general, so I stick with the double shorts. Also nice for city riding. And I like pockets.

One may identify an attractive individual of the appropriate gender wearing spandex. Disclaimer 1: if the individual making the identification is a parent, this may result in an embarrassment violation. Disclaimer 2: increased acknowledgment of spandex as “cool” in the abstract (or in specific identified cases) is not guaranteed to translate into decreased opposition to tight pants. Disclaimer 3: parents wearing spandex may have a nullifying effect and may also result in an embarrassment violation.

We need a family team kit.The mean answer is to go for a long ride in the rain…
Of course then you have a teen that hates riding AND can’t sit down

ParticipantPerhaps a pair of liner shorts for your teen? They are very thin bike shorts that are designed to be worn under ordinary clothes. That said, I still wouldn’t want to ride for any distance in jeans (but somehow I did it as a youngster – I was made of tougher stuff back then I guess).

2 words: Club Ride. The clothes don’t look like technical cycling gear and they make some discreet-ish looking separate chamois (damsel cham for women).

The essence of cool is to look like a middle-aged government bureaucrat: khakis!
