Snowing in Madrid is a sight for most Madrileños! But fresh bread is a must!

My first week of quaxing has yielded:

    • a biscuit from Bayou Bakery
    • fish tacos from District Taco
    • a jigsaw puzzle from Labyrinth Games
    • a biscuit from Junction Bakery & Bistro
    • a donut from Good Company Doughnuts
    • a kouign-amann from Abyssinia Market
    • a scone from Bread & Water Company
    • innumerable weird looks from passersby while I try to get a selfie with me, my bike, my purchase, and the store sign all in the frame :)

I can’t wait to see what next week brings. I do most of my riding in the mornings before work these days, but eventually I’m going to run out of coffee/breakfast places to hit. Guess I’ll just have to start sneaking out for lunchtime rides.

A weekly visit to another good College Park hang-out – the Board and Brew (don’t be disturbed by my sloshing of the drink). They, too, are really struggling with a business model that involves sitting around for hours and playing board games – relying heavily on the local, now virtual, student population. We still mask up and eat outdoors and distanced here on Fridays for breakfast.

I didn’t hashtag last night’s possible Quax stop, it might be too big? Appalachian Brewing has six brew pubs in five different towns.

You need to include the hashtag #BAFS2021SmallBiz so that the leaderboard can count your ride.

I am not rigorously auditing “small biz”. Every restaurant, brewpub, etc. right now is struggling to stay open, and keep staff employed. You spending money there is absolutely what this contest is about, so go and tag it

Scoring is by # of individual quax rides to distinct small bizzes, mileage is only used as tiebreaker. https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/BAFS2021SmallBiz. (My quaxing doesnt count since its my contest)

    #BAFS2021SmallBiz Ruthie’s All Day

OK, not sure if I got this right, and I didn’t realize I needed a selfie WITH the bike WITH a product, etc. I’ve got the trike outside the restaurant, and the lovely food we got (at the socially distant outdoor dining with patio heaters) – will that be enough?

I’m so happy that people are doing what they can to support so many local small businesses. seriously. I’m not gonna disqualify anyone for anything really. The “mask wearing selfie outside the biz with your purchase and your bike” thing was really just to emphasize that people should try to be safe (i.e I didn’t want pictures of people congregating indoors unmasked anywhere!). But really any sort of picture outside the place, and more importantly the hashtag #BAFS2021SmallBiz to ensure it gets tracked on the leaderboard is all I could ask for.

Firehook coffee and chocolate croissant… not so great at taking selfies, but Rumi was with me, so she knows this is legit.

A stop at the Hyattsville Vigilante yielded… nuts!

Not a coffee drinker, but the acai bowl was delicious!
