January 11 (a day late), a neoclassical styled sculpture tucked into an alcove in the garden behind the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuuren, Belgium. It is titled Virgnius en Virginia, and dramatizes the moment when Lucius Virginius kills his daughter Virginia to preserve her virtue, as told in the text of Ab Urbe Condita, by Livy.

I rather liked the parade here: first the pig being lifted into the air by the balloons, then my bike, then my dog in her trailer. With the arrows showing which way the parade should go.

January 12, a street artist from Antwerp, called Dzia, paints murals under contract to dress up otherwise boring or ugly structures. This is not one of his, but the style—the geometric lines and colors—is similar to other works he has done that I know are specifically his. I will snag a few of his in the coming weeks. For now, enjoy!

Found this New2Me art work on the ride with Paul today.

The art work called Compassion – located at N. Courthouse Road and Clarendon Blvd in Arlington – has an interesting history.

Sculptor Una Hanbury molded it with clay and cast it in concrete in 1967. 55 years later, cracks marred its form.

Una Hanbury’s grandson, Colin Poole … fully reproduced the surface textures and the renewed form was cast in bronze for longevity. Greystar Real Estate Partners funded this project.
