Komorebi and I went to the Philadelphia Bike Expo last week. We borrowed the idea of driving to Phoenixville and biking into Philadelphia on the Schuylkill River Trail from Ed and Mary.
On a freshly paved section that was wide.
We went to the Franklin Institute the first night which had an exhibit with the Terracotta Warriors from China. Huge statue of Franklin inside:
Komorebi was cajoled into a pose.
Recreation of the warriors original paint.

Ice cream bliss.
Mr. Happy was there working a side gig.

Philly has a large and active chinatown, which, in the 1940s, had several restaurants that bought their meat from Notis and Sons, Reading Terminal Market (and yeah, it was treif)ftfy.

Pretty fall foliage in the grounds.
Everywhere you go you find a great person from Illinois.
Liberty Bell!

We found the perfect bike for reji at the Expo.
We also found the perfect bike for me.
They also had stuff for Emm.

The cellar is thought to have inspired The Black Cat.
Philly has a bikeshare system that we rode to Poe’s house.
There’s lots of public art and murals in Philadelphia. This was next to the Poe House.

I bought two sweet prints of Abraham Lincoln on a bike from him.
Waiting on a train to pass on the bike ride out of Philly.
Hope you enjoyed and remember, Benjamin Franklin is always watching you.

This was the hardest part of the trip. We went to Monk’s on the way out of town which was a 27 mile bike ride. Every time I’ve had a beer before or during a ride has been really rough.

So then you should be used to it.
I’m from Philly, yo. Grew up in the ‘burbs and lived in Center City from 88-99.

I don’t remember seeing you. I lived in Philly 89-94; 18th & Spring Garden the last two years.

I feel like with a little more practice, you could become a pro at this. 😎
November 15, 2017 at 1:35 pm #1078156huskerdontParticipantSeriously, any trip to Philly that does not involve a (properly participating) visit to either Eulogy or Monk’s is a trip wasted in my book. We can see history and bikes here, but, with apologies to Granville Moore’s, great Belgian beer bars are thin on the ground in the DC area.
