I think the updates from Twitter on this were that Arlington moves the sign so it’s not blocking the Pedestrian signal.
Yep, as of last night the sign is definitely moved. It was a big improvement.

True, I didn’t catch that in your original post.
I tried the route today. As expected, it added time and distance to my commute, so I am still not pleased with it. I am hoping Arlington switches one lane on the overpass to be bikes and pedestrians like they indicated they might. I see zsionakides post above saying it might be, so I’ll check it out tonight on my ride home. Heading home is easier since I can just take the lane on Glebe and don’t need the sidewalk.
Bobco–good advice on the beg button. I remembered that after 1 light cycle, and it worked pretty quick.
I went by there again and can confirm there’s a pedestrian/bike area coned off from the intersection of W. Glebe/S. Glebe to the entrance near the Xtra Fuels gas station. The only issue is that it’s pretty narrow, which could be fixed by moving the barrels closer to the lane line. If you are going west bound you would need to either take the lane on W. Glebe or ride on the eastbound side sidewalk.

I understand those barrels are not that heavy…

Sounds like a job for a Lumberjack.

I can’t wait to see what 9 months of improvements for < 1mile of trail looks like. I assume since it's winter they'll dig a hole, then wait until spring to do anything else because it's too cold, then wait until summer because it's too wet? Or maybe they’re putting in a big slidewalk?
November 15, 2018 at 3:09 pm #1091346joshParticipantTook the Custis and W&OD from Ballston to Herndon-ish this morning, was slow going but not sketchy at all, just wet snow. Curious what it’ll look like in the evening.

The timing and length seemed odd. I do think they are replacing at least one bridge that had been closed off for a while.

Agreed. In fact, I took this non-sketchy danger panda shortly after our fly-by this morning.

Not sure if anyone did or not, but the protected lane looks sufficient to me.
And the crosswalk signal is much more visible.

I rode the Custis home Thursday evening. It was slushy pretty much the whole distance. A thin slush in most spots but completely rideable with any tires. Depending on how cold it gets overnight it will either be no big deal or it might get crunchy if it freezes over. The Trollheim had a full inch of slush. There were two or three dozen other bike tracks, none of which appear to have slid down. So it appears the other bike riders took care and held their lines.
Four Mile Run under Wilson Blvd. on the WOD was several inches deep at about 8pm. I opted to not ride through and went up and across Wilson instead.
November 16, 2018 at 12:00 pm #1091381jepsteinParticipant4MR -> MVT -> 14th 6am — all clear. no ice or slush, just lots of pooling water in all the usual places.
November 16, 2018 at 1:16 pm #1091387SunyataParticipantA little late with this, I meant to post earlier, but got distracted by work.
Custis from EFC to Clarendon was 99% clear. The bridge over 66 near Glebe was still pretty slushy, but rideable by pretty much anyone with any kind of tires.
