ParticipantWhile YMMV depending on all sorts of factors, Freezing Saddles is generally way more fun when you get involved. You may not be a big forum chatter, but most of my best Freezing Saddles memories are with my teammates or other participants. A 12:01AM CaBi ride with a neighbor in snow flurries because the forecast was calling for multiple inches by morning, a bitterly cold ride with a group to Port City, team rides, #beerneuring, the Last Night Hains Point Party, or just meeting up for coffee. I’d encourage all of you to do more than just a single forum post and attend SOMETHING with other forum members.

Well, whatever team I’m on typically stops just short of kidnapping them from their homes and dragging them out to team events.

ParticipantHello. My name is Eddie and I live in MoCo. I’ve always been riding bikes but I really got into it last year. Looking forward to participating in FS 18. Trying to find an extra motivation to go out and ride. I work from home so it’s really convenient to just stay indoors.
Looking forward to meeting and riding with you all.

ParticipantLast year Freezing Saddles kept me riding all winter long, so when my FS team captain Kitty signed up for the Climate Ride, I was inspired to do so as well. 2017 was a big riding year for me, and I’m excited to see what 2018 brings. Starting it off right with Freezing Saddles.

Or riding in some cold dismal weather and seeing someone else ride by and thinking “I bet they’re doing freezing saddles too!”

Starting a long group ride to FairWinds, deciding you can’t keep up in the face of the bitter (IE not so fair) winds, bagging it and heading to a much closer brewery, and finding a group of FS participants already imbibing when you get there!

I met Ed and Mary after I saw Mary riding in circles in a parking lot at Hains Point in the mid-thirties at night and thinking, “That’s probably a Freezing Saddles participant.”

I thought that in order to be a Freezing Saddles participant, you had to look for occasions in which you had three feet of snow on top of black ice, in addition to cold and dark of night?

It was my first year of Freezing Saddles, so it felt like all of those things.

Meg got me going when I started bike commuting last October. I enjoyed spotting Freezing Saddles tags on my rides last winter, looking forward to joining the madness this year.

I think that means you have to sign up for the Climate Ride next year?

ParticipantThis year will be my first time to do FS, I did join a few of the organized rides last year. Not really sure what I’m getting into, but I’m sure it’ll be fun, especially, if there are donuts involved!
