It’s back and in a much better location…. I like this set-up much better.

Barriers are gone! Speed bump is still there. I’m cool with that.

you know, thinking back at it I don’t remember seeing or not seeing the barriers this morning, I was just in my time to make 2 rediculously close right angles over the next 10 feet mode.

I didn’t ride through there this morning… went around from the south. They were there yesterday afternoon when I went to play with hills in North Arlington though.

Needs to be marked, or someone’s going to mark it for them.

They’ve been gone since at least Tuesday.

At least they cleaned up the broken glass in the curb cut by Saturday. I went through there on Thurday evening and got a lot of it in my rather worn tires and the tire went flat just past Memorial Bridge. Then there was the glass on the river side of the speed bump, so I got a double dip in the morning. Still, it gave me an excuse to put the new tires on when I got home.

Still no barriers at the end of the parking lot. Whoo-hoo!

BTW, I drove through there a few weeks ago, and realized what I HORRIBLE design that trail is (if you stay on the trail and don’t use the curb cuts to spend most of your time in the parking lot). Because the trail forms a right angle to go over the crosswalk, it’s not at all clear to a driver that the pedestrian/cyclist is going to use the crosswalk. Plus, the stop sign for drivers heading into the parking lot can’t be seen until a car is practically in the crosswalk. Does anyone know if that awesome NPS fellow made specific suggestions to change the design of that trail/parking lot?

Knowing the NPS, that stop sign is only for trail users, not cars. ;)

Yes, the truck carrying the barriers was nicely parked on the MVT at the south end of the parking lot at 7:50 or so.

Why do we hate the barriers? They keep cyclists from hopping the curb and using the parking lot for a trail. This is a safety issue for everyone, including people who stay on the trail.

Or is this about the speed hump in the middle?

Or the fact that the double right angle turns are even more dangerous? As they were filling them with water at 8 am, I observed that there wasn’t a path through for pedestrians as there was previously.

I don’t think the turns are more dangerous at all. Bikes flying through a parking lot, and then across the right angles and merging in and out of the bike trail, seems more dangerous to me. Just take the trail and slow to the appropriate speed to turn. It’s much easier to see oncoming traffic by approaching at a right angle, especially when you don’t have to worry about the traffic being a bike who may or may not be interested in getting on the trail at that point.
