Duuuuude…you have an S-22??? Only been waiting…oh a few YEARS for one of those. A friend of mine has one (in Atlanta) and he let me borrow it for a few days once (he can no longer ride) and they are awesome, awesome bikes. Every once in a while one pops up on ebay or CL but never in my size. Yours looks like about a 58-59? I officially have bike envy.
It is a 64cm. It is a wonderful bike… I need to get off my butt and finish restoring it. Thanks for the comment. It is nothing but fun.

You’re welcome. And the great thing…I was pretty new to cycling; I had bought a road bike maybe a year or two prior, and my friend was a mechanic and told me: “If you want to know what a road bike should feel like, ride this bike for a few rides.” Never truer words. Hope you show up at the Shirlington/Cap City Brewery happy hour with it

It likely won’t be back on the road until fall, at the earliest. I have it torn down. It needs to go to cycleart for a bit of restoration. I got hit by a car while riding it and it dented the seat tube. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem for a bike like this, but it bent the front derailleur tab. Cycleart was the company that painted them originally, so they have all the original art work for them. This is my second Tesch. I had an S101 in the mid 80’s. It died a warrior’s death. That’s when I got the S22. It was a team back back when I was racing.

ParticipantAnd you’re right about the feel. No bike that I’ve owned before or since feels that good, though it is pretty harsh on rough roads.

ParticipantIs that a Van Dessel G&T I see there? My brother-in-law rolls around town on one of those in Maxxis orange. Actually, its for sale right now. I love that bike.

I use Frogs on the mountain bike. Those are Speedplay Zeros.
I miss that green frame. I broke 2 of them and finally gave up on them. They sent me their high-end cross bike as a replacement.
I’m still looking for a replacement for the frame for that. I’ll likely end up with a Civia Bryant. I’ll likely buy one in the next month or so. Depends on what they have in stock.

Yup. I love and hate that bike. It is a lovely bike and completely beyond reproach. Works perfectly. It is not, however, the bike I wanted when I started. The Van Dessel was a WTF, which was DEARLY LOVED, but turned out to be a bad design. I broke 2 of them in a span of about 3 months. They sent me the Gin and Tonic (my name for it) as a replacement. It is a MUCH nicer frame, but nothing like the one I purchased. I only recently have replaced the WTF. I love the new bike just as much as the old one, but I really miss the WTF.
Here’s what I replaced:

You’ll just need a REALLY long stem and seatpost, Culimerc.

I didn’t notice it at first. I hope I didn’t make anyone late ’cause I was riding around with their red-eye flight stuck in my helmet.
