Penance/challenge accepted! Getting to Quincy will take me out of my usual way, though. So maybe I’ll make a point of hitting all of the other non-MVT counters on my way there. You know, just to make sure that I’ve properly atoned.
Does it still count as penance if it’s fun? Hitting the 24 non-MVT bike counters took me to parts of Arlington that I’ve never ridden, like Military Road and the west side of Key Bridge. That’s slightly embarrassing, considering that I’ve been pedaling around Arlington for six years now, but the ride was lots of fun. And I ran across a bonus counter on the trail that runs between the Netherlands Carillon and Arlington National Cemetery. It’s not listed on the Bike Arlington site, so I’m guessing that’s an NPS counter.

ParticipantFirst time in months that I’ve been drenched – like “I jumped in the pool with all my clothes on” drenched. I always ride at an easy pace when I commute, so I didn’t have to brake hard. The MVT wasn’t totally emptied out by the rain – there were still some dedicated runners out there.
At E. Glebe and Potomac Ave, there was cyclist lying on the ground, in the middle of the intersection, with a bike lying nearby. He (I think it was a he) appeared to be unconscious, with a blanket over him, but was surrounded by concerned citizens, one of whom was on a mobile phone, presumably calling for help. Traffic in the direction of that intersection from Potomac Yards was totally blocked, because nobody wanted to risk moving the injured cyclist, though any of those cars could have just turned around and taken any number of routes through Potomac Yards. I did hear some sirens as I rode away from the intersection.

ParticipantWell, that was wet. Only one other damn fool cyclist had their bike at the rack on back to school night at Swanson.

Participant2.16 inches of rain in Alexandria. I guess that was enough rainfall to make my Lizard Skins handlebar tape and MKS Lambda pedals more slick than I was hoping they would be, as well as saturate my quick-dry clothes enough that they didn’t dry quickly after I got home.

Was it wheels&wings’s bike? I doubt she was daunted by any rain.

Whoever she was, she was in a black dress with reflective bands on both ankles. Awesome.

ParticipantIt was too wet to take any pictures, but it came in very handy that our basement bike entrance leads right into the concrete-floored laundry room. We were at dinner 2 miles away when it started raining in earnest. The kids claimed to not be having any fun at all but I think they were lying.

I think they were, too. I actually rode past my turnoff last night, so I could ride a little farther in the rain. (My fender and my front dynamo light were creating a really cool light show with the water spray.)
Just because you grow up doesn’t mean it’s not fun to play in the rain.September 30, 2015 at 4:11 pm #1038701jrenaut

Are you claiming to be a grown-up?

Probably. Forecast is for a ton of rain even IF this hurricane doesn’t hit. And if it does we’re all going to die.

They did say the bad side would be comparable to Agnes, so yah.

ParticipantI was a kid when Agnes hit. If you weren’t here then, you have no point of comparison that could begin to describe the levels of flooding in some areas. Freaking Biblical.
