Once I started riding fixed I started carrying quick-links in my tool bag. I should probably get some for my geared chains too, but I’m lazy.

Should have texted me. I have a quick link in my kit and probably wasn’t far from wherever you were.

No, but I had one on my bedside table that I was thinking about putting in my bag this morning but didn’t. So almost as good.

I was on Van Buren, so I just went to Tri360. The chain never even fell off.

I always have one in my saddle bag, after learning the hard way by snapping my chain once and having to hoof it home.

I usually keep a couple sets of 9sp and 10sp kmc missing links in the bag. Along with tire boots, patches, cables and more tools than anyone should bike with. I also learned the hard way how difficult it can be to cut a gear cable with only a knife and still be able to get it through the housing…the cable was dual headed, so one end had to be cut somewhat cleanly…

I didn’t realize that you could use quick links with FG? Just as a temporary measure? Probably need an extra half link, though — or maybe you would get lucky and have the chain break on the right half.
I just carry spare chain links on the (SS) mtb. On the geared bike I don’t worry about it; I can just shorten the chain. I probably should throw a quick link in to save me some time. That said, in the past 7 or 8 years I have never broken a chain on the road bike. (Have broken a few on the mtb.)

At least on my KMC 1/8th chains, the quick-links are the same as the master links that come with the chain, so I don’t think it would compromise the integrity of the chain…I’d probably change the chain ASAP just to be safe though to avoid having two master links (although I don’t really know why that would be dangerous). And I think my main tool bag has a two quick links and maybe two extra regular links just in case…but with horizontal dropouts chain length isn’t a huge issue.

This. I have spare links for the fixie, but not for for the geared bike. Chain tools on both, though.

The last chain on my Cross-Check had 4 before it moved on to a new home. What a great bike that was…

ParticipantI pity the MVT’ers tonight. That wind will be right in your faces.

ParticipantI ate gravel several times today, but didn’t crash once. Silly wind.
