I was covered by dozens and dozens of bugs when I got home. I assume most were dead; none were moving. Face, head, chest, even down to my belly (sweat carried them there?), covered with bugs. I noticed that as I passed through the Crystal City Connector onto the MVT that it was solid bugs for a couple hundred yards, so I suppose most of them rode the final 21 miles home with me. Damn freeloaders…
I ate a bug last night on a grocery run. Not sure what it was but it tasted kind of bittersweet!

ParticipantThe worst part about those rare times when I have to drive somewhere at or near rush hour is passing trails I know and seeing cyclists on them and wishing I could join them. Though downtown out to Dulles and back was actually pretty painless.

I go through this too. My metro commute on the yellow line lets me see the cyclists on 14th st bridge. I am always sad and jealous when I see them.

Terpfan, that’s what you get for listening to WTOP. They make a heavy rain sound as if portals to Hell are about to open around the region. The ride in was completely uneventful, and the forecast is that most of the rain will be gone by 7 pm. In fact, since I had a strong headwind, you would have had a power assist on your ride.
Rain does open the portals to Hell if you’re driving a big metal box. It’s nothing more than a free shower if you’re on a bike.

A strong tailwind? Argh, don’t say that. I will now hate myself for the rest of the day. Plus empty paths. Failure on my part.
Not just WTOP, but CWG. I need to just start asking a friend who works in professional weather forecasting for private corporate interests. He’ll just do the no bs explanation.

That is, what would be called a “teachable moment”

I’m already taught! I’ve been at this job for four years and this is the second time I’ve driven.

I need some signage or something for those little branch / off-shoots that put you onto neighborhoods.
Garmin with maps?

Posted this on a separate thread recently, but I blogged about this signage problem a few years ago. Sorry for those of you who already saw it.
Are there signs now in parts of Vienna? I seem to remember being surprised at the upkeep of the trail stems there between Cedar and Maple.

Just like I said, you’re 50% there by default of my not biking and sitting in miserable traffic while I watched a few of you bike by. Grrrr, weather.
Thanks, terpfan for your sacrifice. I really appreciated the dry commute this AM. To my very uneducated eye, I’d say it looks like all the very worst of this mess will stay west of us during the day given its current track. But, then again, I am not a professional meteorologist. In any event, I made sure to tuck my rain cape in my panniers this AM.
Oh, and yes… TAILWIND! I certainly felt it. And for the last several hours, according to NWS, the wind at National has been a steady 15 MPHish southerly with gusts up to 25. I hardly had to pedal to keep up a 15-16 mph moving pace this AM.
Sorry to rub it in.

ParticipantTerpfan is the best, taking one for the team here. Did I mention it hasn’t even started raining yet?

No worries, I fixed that. Went for a lunch ride. Told the BF, oh, we might get a little drizzle near the end. heh, heh.
