ParticipantValentine’s Day commute was interesting. The florist that was supposed to have delivered flowers to my wife at her office failed to do so–and failed to notify me of this until 9:00 pm. My options for getting her flowers by that time were pretty limited–no one was going to deliver, and the florists were all closed even for pick-up. But I was determined. I found an arrangement at the Giant, and brought it home with me on the bike.
On the way home, flowers in one pannier and big vase with teddy bear in it on the other:

All reassembled at home:

ParticipantThis is how I felt as I filtered past around 10 drivers stopped at a light to push the pedestrian beg button that changed the normally 3 second green light to 25 seconds with the walk signal which allowed all the drivers to make it through the intersection this evening:
You’re welcome!

Was not my finest. It started OK as I stopped off at Bikenetic to see Dirt and talk new cross/commuter tires as mine are completely shot and flatting all the time. Dirt was not around but Jan was glad to help out. I left informed but without new rubber for now. Back on the WOD and being careful to elude the dreaded FCPD I slowed at the Grove St. crossing only to be passed by a dude with absolutely no regard for the stop sign. He flew through the intersection just as I was getting clipped in without even a look. He then pulled the ultimate DB move, passing (and nearly clipping) two woman with strollers as they crossed paths with a gentleman walking towards them… yep, four abreast with him at speed. The gentleman yelled and put his hands out for protection and the ladies screamed. I slowed, apologized for his behavior and chased the scum down. As I got next to him (and gestured for him to remove his headphones) I became possessed by a sudden calmness (weird). I decided to politely explain what I had just witnessed and suggested better methods for future situations… he tolerated my intrusion and then I flatted. DANG IT! Luckily it was directly in front of the “Free Air” station on the WOD so I rolled my bike to the station, leaned my steed against the air machine (you can see where this is going), started taking off my back pack when I watched my bike slowly roll forward and fall against the pole…. result:
Needless to say, wasn’t a great ride home.
sorry to hear.

ParticipantTonight was probably the worst traffic I’ve ever seen in McLean and surrounding areas thanks to a tractor trailer wreck closing the GWMP. My commute was….unaffected.

ParticipantGeorgetown was slammed, so I took the C&O to Chain Bridge. When I got back to Falls Church I decided to make a pit stop to ruin my appetite.

As long as you can hold off going home till, say, 2 a.m., you’re golden.

So, that’s a lot of weather we’re having.

ParticipantHalf of my fellow cyclists on the WOD yesterday evening were too f***ing clueless and/or rude to call their passes. Usually it’s closer to 80-90%. So, um, I guess that’s good.

ParticipantMy evening commute was not by bike, because I seem to have injured my knee. So I decided to take Metro. There was single tracking. The platform was so full people were hanging out upstairs rather than try to get on it. The sign that should show when the next train is said this was the wrong track, even though it was the only track open. I was left to hope the train itself (if one ever showed up) would say where it was going, since the sign clearly wouldn’t (and if I got on the wrong one, it would be going in entirely the wrong direction). Two trains came in the wrong direction before one came in the right one.
Let’s just say I was reminded of why I prefer to bike.

ParticipantRode from Crystal City to National Geographic to watch a documentary – up MVT to 15th, etc.. Not a single cyclist was going in my direction. I was surprised at the time, but now that I think about it, the Yellow Line is a decent ride from Crystal City to stations north. Going south is the PITA direction due to Safetrack.
Only bummers on the ride was discovering I couldn’t cut in front of the White House to get to 17th. Lots of stuff fenced off, increasing the density of pedestrian traffic.

Hey, that’s my commute!
Did you lock up in the garage? Riding the helix down to P1 (and back up) is one of my favorite parts.

The Yellow line is my backup, and it’s really not bad going into the city.

No, I just locked up on one of the racks on M St. Got a bit lost riding to Mt. Vernon Metro, mostly taking L St but missing a turn to get back onto M St. Traffic wasn’t too bad at that time of night (around 9 pm), even with a parked car blocking the L St. bike lane.
