I’m a little ticked since it looks like I’ll have to change out my rear tire well before the tread wears down due to the gouges.
Super glue can close up cuts in the tread sometimes. Lower the tire pressure, squeeze the cut open, add a couple drops and let close.

what, like when NPP decide to enforce the stop signs at HP?
Friendly reminder everyone:
Tonight there will be an overnight bicycle race on the Mount Vernon Trail. The course involves various loops through the Gravelly Point parking lot as well as timed sprints between Gravelly Point and Crystal City. We will be recklessly running all stop signs and vastly exceeding trail speed limits. To qualify for prizes, participants must drink a beer each lap and smash the bottle somewhere along the course at a location of their choosing.
Most of you already know the exact time of this event. So I won’t post the details again here, because I’m concerned that the Park Police might now be listening on this channel. We certainly don’t want them to show up.

We didn’t get a permit for the organized, competitive, for profit event either. F@#k the police!

ParticipantMore info. This morning I was on the Crystal Drive bike path (northbound) near the Starbucks at 23d St. There was a smashed Miller High Life bottle in the bike path. That would suggest a ped (the Miller High Life lowlife) walking north from the southern end of Crystal City and towards the District. The farthest north I’ve observed clear glass in the trail is the porta-potties at Gravelly Point.
Kudos to the staff in Crystal City as I returned about 90 minutes later to clear the bike path and all the glass had been removed.
I asked the CC BID if they would see if there is any security video of that area last night.

ParticipantGood information. I will add that to my case record in the off chance the NPS law enforcement takes me up on my offers to help inform them. I might have to just go there and request an audience?
The farthest south I have seen glass is under the Smith Boulevard bridge here 38.847099, -77.048594 And the torn paper almost always starts here by the water fountain 38.847836, -77.048079 So I have been thinking that Miller (for short) crossed over the 26th street/ Airport Access Road bridge to begin his morning. There is a McDonald’s restaurant right across the Airport Access road bridge, that may be where he’s foraging in the trash.

Yes, agreed on the likely route. He probably returns via Crystal City connector, or u-turns at the end of the north airport bridge, back onto the airport sidewalks. Sleeping in the airport or on the grounds?
There are two overhead cameras on the fence between the airport exit and Gravelly Point.

ParticipantThere is now a broom on the MVT bridge closest to the Crystal City Connector. Not sure how long it will last.

ParticipantI think hanging the broom in a nearby tree is the most stealth and easily accessible option. But I will use the shit out of it if I see glass in the mornings.
I’m off till Thursday this week though…

ParticipantWell that turned out badly. At 0700 the broom was gone and there was glass (fresh since 1700 yesterday) on both bridges north of the connector. I’m conceding that Anomad’s stealth approach may have been better.
Broom. We hardly knew you.

I’m happy to chip in for the next broom if someone wants to buy and hide it somewhere…

ParticipantI’m in for the contribution but my broom hiding skills clearly suck so the home for the next one is on someone else

ParticipantHey, you’re in luck as I have 2 deck brushes that I no longer need and cannot bring with me to Seattle! I will PM everyone involved on this thread to determine a workable solution.

ParticipantI really hope it’s a broom drone.

ParticipantThe glass was on both bridges Monday morning around 9:30.

ParticipantIf you encounter glass on the bridge just north of the CC Connector, the longer bridge near the fence, and along the fenceline; please call the NPS (numbers below) and post details below (location, date and who you called). That will help us chronicle the input to the NPS.
