ParticipantMonument commemorating Salisbury Plain, a piece of land purchased from Thomas 6th Lord Fairfax in 1725 by Henry Lee. It was originally part of the Stafford County “frontier,” then became successively part of Prince William County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and eventually ended up as part of Fairfax County in 1798. In 1787 the property was divided and a portion went to Richard Bland Lee, the first US Congressman to represent northern Virginia. Location is on a grassy stretch along Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy, between Chantilly Rd and Downs Dr.

ParticipantThis plaque honoring earth scientist Dr. William Pecora is on the grounds of the USGS in Reston where he was Director from 1965-1971. Several “Dawn Redwoods” were planted in his memory — my bike is leaning against one of the redwoods. Dr. Pecora’s two major contributions to science in the public interest were the creation of a national earthquake research center at the USGS facility in Menlo Park, CA, and the Landsat series of Earth observing satellites.

Participant1/13/2022 Monuments Lions Fountain in Torrejon. Every town has its center fountain representing the center of the town with city buildings surrounding it. Torrejon likes to present itself as a very strong king of the outlying townships of Madrid
PS I thought this had posted until it asked me if I wanted to use the draft! So a dollar short and a few days late!

This memorial sign commemorates a Civil War outpost built here in 1861 by Confederates to guard a bridge over Four Mile Run. The memorial is on Manchester Street across from Bluemont Park in Arlington.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
