Shorakapok Rock

Shorakapok or Shorakkopoch Rock marks the area believed to be the site of the “selling” of Manhattan between Peter Minuit and the Native Americans. In 1938, NYC Parks moved the rock here from another area of the park to replace the 280-year-old tulip tree that stood on this site until its death in 1938.

I had to brush off the snow covering the plaque.

This 4 foot wide fragment of the Berlin Wall is displayed at the entrance to the Bundeswehr—German Armed Force Command Headquarters in Reston. The wall fragment, decorated by the famous French “wall artist” Thierry Noir, is explained in a plaque that my bike is leaning against, providing historical context and Berlin Wall facts.
