    Braddock Cannon
    Braddock Road and Russell Road
    Alexandria, Virginia

    North Side

This monument marks the trail taken by the army of General Braddock which left Alexandria on April 20, 1755 to defend the western frontier against the French and Indians.

Erected by the Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Virginia, May 26, 1915

    South Side

The Cannon used here was abandoned by General Braddock at Old Alexandria April 1755.

The Cobble-Stones composing this mound were taken from the streets of Old Alexandria which were paved by legal enactment in 1785.

It’s always fun to spot something random along the side of the ‘roadway’. This spot also had three cool historical markers (which don’t count for this game), but I still got pictures of them.

This is nothing special at all, but it works for this game. The sun angle was tricky, so you can’t read the ‘in memory of’ at the top.

James Hart was in inspiration to the creation of the Beeline Hwy in AZ (which I was riding on).

This lab was named for Dr. Holland who had a passion for blood research and served on the American Red Cross board from 1970 until his death in 1985.

1/26/2022 Monuments traffic was terrible this morning and I couldn’t get closer…this statue was erected to celebrate women’s effort in labor.

This is a sad one, along the road on my ride today. It’s a memorial to a young boy who must have liked to ride his bicycle as it’s part of the memorial to him. You can barely see the small bike beneath all the tinsel and stuffed animals. The flyer with the boy’s photo was faded and the printing no longer legible.

Councilman John Edward “Jack” Perry served on the College Park City Council for 26 years. From the time he moved to College Park’s Berwyn neighborhood in 1969, until his death in 2012, Jack was deeply committed to serving his community.

A park and statue for John Witherspoon who was a founding father and a president of Princeton University. Always wondered who this statue was of just south of Dupont Circle!

Parents are certainly very important people to their children. Sadly, they don’t mention a specific name, but they are still people.

It may be a boring sign and not some fancy monument, but it works!

Not sure if this qualifies, but on my post office run today, I saw this plaque commemorating the history of the PO.
