I’ve not played this because monuments/memorials are few and far between out here. But this one is at the Wal-Mart where the shooting happened in 2019. It’s called “Grand Candle” and is lit up at night. It’s not a great place to ride at night, so here’s a link to someone else’s photo to see it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_El_Paso_shooting#/media/File:El_Paso_Shooting_Monument.jpg
But here’s what it looks like in the daytime. The names of the 23 victims are listed distributed between the two sides.

You can also see a flaring burn-off from a smokestack. That is fewer than 5 miles away, across the border in Mexico. Where I was standing to take this photo, I was within 3 miles of my mom’s house. The border is very real here.

You need to be more creative. Go to local parks. Look for park benches. Look for road signs. You’d be surprised at what you will see. I’m sure you could find something for Marty Robbins out there!
I got lucky and have found seven so far at a park just 3 miles from my hotel. I’ve also spotted numerous others on my way to that park.January 25, 2022 at 4:04 am #1117665bikedavid

ParticipantToday I rode on a section of local trail designated “Purple Heart Trail,” dedicated to our country’s combat wounded soldiers. This plaque provides a good description of the award and it’s origins. 💜
