ParticipantPing: Random guy on the wrong side of the yellow line coming at me around the blind curve under the Sycamore Street overpass yesterday evening.
You know.

ParticipantYou: Black BMW convertible driver on M Street heading east (toward PA and L Streets) this morning, (Tuesday 8/20 ~9:20am).
Me: CaBi rider who you decided to pass a little close after GUNNING IT to get around me.My CaBi is faster than your Bimmer. Looks like you had fun sitting on L Street though.

ParticipantYou: Minivan looking lost and driving on the trail in Bon Air Park (Saturday 8/17 ~10:15am).
Me: Patiently riding behind you while you (thankfully) went the speed of slugs.I’m glad you were being careful and driving slowly, but how did you end up on the trail in the first place? Good thing there was a flexible plastic bollard you could drive over to exit the trail instead of one of those metal ones.

No, two different rides, two different days. I do regularly commute via CaBi from Ballston(ish) to McPherson Square(ish) though. I usually stop and dock halfway since it usually takes me a hair longer than 30 minutes.

ParticipantTo the jack’hole* that didn’t announce your pass at 6th & Indiana NW this morning while running the red light- allowing the noise of your bike announce your pass for you is a good sign that you are in need of a tune up. Another sign? Me effortlessly passing you up the hill despite your substantial head start from said red light running. If you are too cheap to bring it to one of many local bike shops in town, at least do that poor bike the favor of learning some basic maintenance. Really, it is not brain surgery and bikes are lovely and undeserving of the abuse you are subjecting it to.
*one of my favorite contractions! Put 3 letters in the middle and you get two great disparaging words conveniently shrunken down to one!

As a full on headphone hater I’ve taken to playing muzak sans headphones on the MVT to get peoples attention since calling passes and bell ringing either confuses or infuriates the iZombies. It would amaze you how many people look around when they hear “Safe European Home” by the Clash being blasted by a dude in business casual frantically ringing his bell. A dude in his 60s asked if I was playing “Give ’em enough rope” as I passed him, which was pretty boss.

ParticipantYou: Sitting out in the field at Gravelly Point, practicing panning/motion shots on passing cyclists.
Me: Hoping my “say-cheese” grin is sharp in your picture(s).
Like so: 😎

I want “Ride of the Valkyries” (starting at the 25 second mark – think the early part of the helicopter scene from Apocalypse Now) that I can play instead of ringing my bell!
:p

ParticipantSeveral years ago on the Capital Crescent I passed a dude on a hybrid bike, pulling a cargo trailer, with one of those old-school boomboxes bungeed in the center, blasting “eye of the tiger” full blast as he rode down the trail. It was pretty awesome.

ParticipantOne thing I missed about Bike DC is riding with the guys with the industrial site boomboxes.
