What does a cute whistle sound like?

ParticipantYou: Vecchio’s of Colorado jersey
Me: Still laughing at you for taking the Drink of Shame after failing to drop me while I called out every pass you would not for several miles on the MVT this morning. Bit perplexed why you felt the need to screech at those women joggers about staying to the right given how you didn’t seem to need the room when you passed me earlier without warning and a bit too close while I was passing another rider.
Anyway, we both know what you finally reaching for your water bottle signified—it was a fail.
Think about that next time you pass like an ass.August 20, 2013 at 1:05 pm #978761slowtriguy
ParticipantYou: Lexus driver who desperately needed to save 5 seconds
Me: Bicyclist riding legally down Stafford between Washington and FairfaxMa’am, I was riding legally at the time you tried to pass me at Stafford and Washington, and again when you passed me illegally on Stafford between 11th and Fairfax, saving all of 5 seconds before I arrived at the same light. You might want to recheck the traffic codes, particularly the bits about bicycles having the right to use a full lane when necessary and the bit about leaving more than a few air molecules of separation when you pass a bicycle.
For bonus points, you might want to consider reading the bits about not passing other cars illegally on the right on a one-lane-in-each-direction road.
For ELITE bonus points, you might want to consider the wisdom of aggressive driving around folks who work in the same building as you do.

Got a plate number? Please report the aggressive driving to the police!

And add an exceedingly polite note on the windshield…in serial killer handwriting?

ParticipantLast night heading southbound on the MVT at the roadway for Bellevue Marina I heard a shreik about 5 seconds after I passed an old woman. So I stopped and turned around thinking maybe something bit her or she fell or something happened. Instead, she starts telling me I need to call my passes. I was both happy and annoyed at the same time. Happy that someone cared enough to “correct” me, but annoyed because I had rung my bell, not once, but twice for her and with plenty of time. I also passed her with a wide berth and had both front and rear blinkies on. In fact, I had called every pass all the ride back and many folks (even some with headphones in) acknowledged it.
Once I started chatting with her, I realized it wasn’t the bell that was the issue. She also thought I couldn’t hear her since my right earphone (singular, right ear) was in. I politely explained, how else would I have heard commotion behind me to stop and turn around. She did ask me to test the bell to show her and I decided I didn’t have the heart to do the same full ring with her maybe realizing that I wasn’t the problem. So I did a real slight ring and she proceeded to explain that I least I had a bell, but it must be in some muted form.
(The whole time a good 3 or 4 cyclists passed us within inches with no calls whatsoever). So as I pedaled off, I decided that despite the slight annoyance, I’m glad someone is out there taking people to town. Even if it’s me, even if I did ring the bell and she couldn’t hear it, the point for me is that there will be people who won’t be able to hear it and so try to be even louder. And I admired the woman just taking someone twice her size and probably 1/3 of her age to town.
Moving to this morning’s ride… ok dude with the blue milk crate box on top of your back fenders, what were you thinking on the no call blind triple pass by the airport? We all came inches from a close encounter with the pavement or dirt because around that blind corner came another three cyclists. And you barely made it through the middle. I caught up to you once or twice more on the ride in, but I decided I preferred a good 10-20 feet of space in case you tried something similar again and the luck wasn’t on our side.

But it’s just the natural order of things that a car passes a bike. At least that’s the thinking. My favorite: when they “pass” or start to pass around a curve or approaching a stop sign. So you arrive at the stop sign when they do, and the stupid car is straddling the yellow line because it couldn’t really pass you before the sign.

And that’s when you take a little extra time putting your foot down, looking both ways, and then slowly getting started going through the sign.

Drivers do that to me a lot in Great Falls, but usually they just cut back over and shove me to the right as they approach the stop sign. I generally hold my line and kick their door if they get close enough, but its amazing how many people have the mindset of “I started passing, therefore I can merge back over whenever I want”.

I always imagine myself as being in that Scion commercial, what with the sudden rev of the car’s engine clueing me in to the driver’s intentions.

That dude ran me off the trail a couple of months ago. He’s completely oblivious and usually inebriated.
By the way, dude doing pushups in the middle of the trail yesterday – yes, I did call you a needledick for blocking everyone. I don’t think yelling “come back here and fight me” is a great retort when I’m pushing 20mph in the opposite direction.
