Maybe he just assumes anyone talking about “Fixie Man” means the fraction man. ;)

New driving technique sighted! If pictures are worth a thousand words, then a movie which is made of thousands of pictures must be a million!

Looking at it now, the least he could’ve done is used his turn signal.

Naaaaah! That’s not a new one. I have seen that one on the freeway all the time. Miss the exit ramp?? Well, you could go forward 2 miles and do a U turn. Ooooor you could do a massively unsafe drive-in-reverse on the freeway back to the exit ramp. Which will you do??? Which will you do????

There is actually three choices. An LEO relative of mine has worked large portions of the beltway before and proceeded to explain to me the reason those barriers always look smashed is because they are smashed from people running into them when they try to switch to the other side too quickly or can’t make their mind. Apparently it happens fairly frequently, but I’ve only seen the backing up phenomena.

Me: Waiting patiently to turn left at the NB red light at 7th and PA NW.
You: Cab driver behind me who honked, went around me much too closely, gesturing angrily for me to move over, then turned left on red.

I was actually giving you the benefit of the doubt at first, thinking you just wanted to go straight and weren’t respecting my right to be in the road. But no, you weren’t respecting my right AND you wanted to make an illegal turn.

I don’t understand why it’s so hard to wait for the green light there. I think 1/3 of all cars I see turn left there do it on red, and I go through that intersection almost every weekday.

That’s not possible, only cyclists blow through stops and all motorists obey all stops.

Am I missing something? You were in the Left Turn lane on 7th heading North, waiting to make a Left on to PA (to hop into the CYcletrack, presumably) and a cab went around you to make an illegal left turn across 4 lanes of PA East-bound traffic *and* two bike lanes?

    WTF is with people?

It wasn’t quite that bad – the light was green for going straight on 7th across PA Ave, so PA traffic was stopped. And he did yield to oncoming traffic SB on 7th as if there was no red arrow. But yeah. WTF, indeed.

To the gentleman at the top of the path off the 14th St Bridge (DC side), thanks for apologizing and stopping, but honestly it was my fault I lightly bit the dirt this morning. You did signal and I misinterpreted it for a pass signal. Kudos to you for stopping and apologizing as neither was required, but both were appreciated!

Now, to the yellow cyclist at 4MR and MVT, you have a yield coming onto the MVT, whether or not you like it. And to the car going into the Washington Post’s garage last night–you were 50% of the way there with looking for cyclists. Except it’s a two-way cycletrack. Thankfully, I semi-anticipated your move and went right into the same alley with you to avoid a collision (because you stopped when you realized pedestrians also crossed that sidewalk).

Not trying to start an argument, but it is not clear to me who has the right of way at that intersection. The yield sign sits in the middle of the V created by the intersection. Neither path is going exactly straight at that point. Since the 4MR trail ends at that point, I’ve always considered those on the MVT to have the right of way, but I don’t count on 4MR users yielding the right of way.

Me: cyclist with highly visible fluorescent yellow vest moving quickly down L St cycle track towards my office this morning around 8 am.

You: oversized SUV with directional challenges, making left hand turn onto Connecticut from L with spontaneity.

Fortunately my brakes were just strong enough to avoid your offer to help rearrange the rear left side of your vehicle, so I must decline said invitation. Unfortunately, in my haste, certain choice words escaped me. I apologize that they were neither strong enough to the occasion, nor reached your ears. Next time I will try harder to rise to the occasion.

Me: When I buy a new car should I get the turn signal option or not?
    Every other driver: No!
