More of a pogo to half wheelie, but it still looked rad.

Sort of a reverse missed connection:

My wife is starting to ride more frequently and is loving it. Unfortunately her commute to work is 20 steps from the bedroom to her office so she tends to ride only on weekends, and as you know this can be discouraging especially given her tendency to ride the MVT. Today she asked if I might accompany her on a fake commute… she wanted to do the Arlington Loop for the first time with a stop in Shirlington before work. It was a wonderful morning with great weather and pretty quite. She turned to me and said “The DB ratio is so much lower in the week” and I just smiled. But to be honest she was right. Most of the folks that passed us gave ample warning and some even gave us a “Good morning”. Runners were super polite and thanked us for our warnings… all in all it was sort of magical… a butterfly even landed on my handlebars… I swear I heard Disney music and saw a Unicorn pooping a rainbow next to the water treatment plant! It certainly helped that we crossed paths with GuyContinental, Fractionman, and RandoGuy who all gave us a warm greeting.

I just wanted to post a good story in this section to restore an ounce of faith in our fellow commuters.

Dickie – did you yell my name out this morning on 4 mile run? If so, sorry I didn’t say hey quite the way I should have, was on my way to destroy a shoaler.

You: Cyclist wearing bibs OVER a loose-fitting cotton t-shirt.

    Me: I don’t even…

There was a character in Bored To Death who did this. My wife asked me to promise that I’d never dress that way. I took her to mean wear my bibs improperly, but she might have meant something else.

Yep, that was me. no worries… You had that look about you which indicated to me you WERE just about to destroy a shoaler or you had something smelly in your handlebar bag! Good to see you.

To the gentleman riding the Eddie Merckx fixie this morning heading west bound on the W&OD. I am sorry you got your knickers in a twist when I politely passed you just before Madison Manor Park but you slowed and I had momentum so I gave you a warning and said good morning…. crickets! Was it then necessary to pass me heading under the Sycamore St. tunnel without warning on a blind corner while I waited to pass three ladies on their cruisers with two runners coming towards us? I always was taught with age comes wisdom and thus to respect your elders…. apparently it skips generations from time to time. I also love that I inevitably caught you up on van Buren St. and sensing my arrival you accelerated as hard as you could and blew through the stop light, you sir shall now serve as the “Elite Poster Old Fart”, as “child” only refers to your actions not your age!

Setting: 7:10 on MVT near the airport.

    You: “Fixie Man”

Me: Caught up to you slowly as you worked your way around other users. It was all I could do to stay in your wake when the trail was clear.

You: I don’t think you were even breaking a sweat.

Color me impressed and thanks for the pull!

I appreciated the company. Hope the rest of your ride was great.
