About 0715, gentleman running northbound on the MVT north of the Humpback wearing something that appeared to be a loin skin. Way too much flank action! I was remiss in not getting a photo.
If it was red I’ve seen that guy a number of times running at night. I’ll have to look through my GoPro videos and see if he’s in any of them.

ParticipantMost days I cross 14th St NW twice in the morning before work while taking my daughter to daycare and coming back to get my stuff and go to work. This morning, on the way, I got the green while we were a few feet away, so we hurried up to the crosswalk. As we stepped in, two clowns on bikes (one with headphones) ran the light right in front of us without even a glance. I yelled at them, “This is a crosswalk!”, and then said something unpleasant a little quieter (I regret this, but whatever, it was well-deserved). Then, another guy on a bike ran the light just behind us and had the audacity to tell me to calm down.
Then, on the way back home, a bike ran the light, though not that close to me. But the WMATA bus who had stopped in the intersection then decided to continue on through the red right as I was about to walk in front of him. I yelled at him, too, to no avail.
Then my entire ride in was filled with shoalers, bad passes, and stupid people. And now I’m at work. Hooray.

Please report the bus driver. I know the cyclists are annoying, make us all look bad, and could have hurt you, but that bus really would have hurt. I’m finding the WMATA bus drivers are getting worse, and I hope consistent reporting will do something about it.

Please don’t.
Please.

What’s with the headphones while riding in traffic? Seriously, I can’t think of anything sillier than the bozos I see every day with both ears covered by giant Beats headphones or, the ultimate sin, headphones and texting while riding on the sidewalk by Union Station or weaving in traffic on Constitution. I just don’t get it.
Also, I know I’m preaching to the choir on this, but if you’re going to be out at 9pm riding on an unlit trail please have some lights on your bike. I almost crashed into two lightless folks last night (dressed in all black no less) that had no reflective gear that were texting and weaving all over the place. Give us some warning so we don’t all wind up in traction.

Two incidents in one day, both reported thanks to this link.

ParticipantBummer, looks like they’re still stopping/driving there, thought they’d been better about it. I have reported this twice at least. One time the driver actually made a move toward me with the van while I was talking to her about why it’s dangerous for her to park there… no response from WMATA, big surprise.

ParticipantYou: Crazy dude threading between two side-by-side MOVING commuter buses on K NW who then almost got right-hooked by the black SUV turning right from the middle lane when you emerged from the narrow gap… maybe rethink that move next time?

ParticipantYou: Muir Woods north of San Francisco, Sunday afternoon, lime green Bike to Work Day 2012 t-shirt. Me, figuring out it was a DC shirt and trying to reign in my 7 year old at the same time.

ParticipantDear drivers:
When you merge into a bike lane to turn right, you have two major responsibilities. You have to signal, and you have to yield. I can deal with either/or, but when you give me neither I get smacky.
Dear blue Honda CRV at 14th and U NW:
My wedding band was supposed to be underneath my glove. I hope it didn’t scratch the paint. Next time try yielding and using your turn signal.

ParticipantHi, huge truck stopping next to me in the left lane in the middle of Pennsylvania Ave.
We both know what you were thinking. I made sure you saw me so you didn’t run over me when you did your little illegal U-turn, and took my time so you’d have to think about it.
You didn’t think very long though, because when I looked back a few seconds later, you were already on the other side.
Think harder next time, buddy.

ParticipantYou: Sweaty jogger dude on Memorial bridge rounding the corner on the DC side.
Me: Sweaty biker dude on Memorial bridge assuming, stupidly, that you wouldn’t be doing calisthenics on the sidewalk right behind neo-Roman horse statue, the perfect hiding place.I’m glad to see you doing what appeared to be rigorous calisthenics before our proud city became the barren, Mad-Max-esque moonscape, that it is at this late hour. Further, I was happy to see that you were rocking no fewer than 6 of those mini-hydration bottles on your utility belt. That is just pragmatic.
In fact, everything you were doing this morning was exceedingly smart, except for doing calisthenics with your Bass-tastic headphones on behind a massive concrete pillar on the wrong side of the sidewalk.
I sincerely apologize for nearly killing you while you were in plank position. But I don’t understand why you were doing planks on the concrete rather than on that green soft stuff immediately adjacent to the concrete. You are mysterious sweaty calisthenics dude.

Please tell me there was a bunny hop involved in your evasive maneuver!
