I was surprised by the number of joggers that were all over the trail today. One in Rosslyn was jogging straight down the left side of the Custis. I guess they thought no one else would be out in this glorious spring rain.

It was surprisingly busy today, wasn’t it?

I waited until the rain stopped, saw 1 bike over 12 miles on the WOD today. Nuts.

Interesting. I rode to work in steady rain, and there were multiple runners and cyclists along my entire route from Falls Church to DC.

Rode with two other cyclists down Clarendon Blvd from Clarendon to Rosslyn. Soaked to the bone but we were all smiling…

To the woman in the SUV who did the wacky u turn on 18th street near Crystal Drive, next time you drive like that, you might want to do it in a car without political bumper stickers – it doesn’t reflect well on the folks you support. Not that I was going to vote for Cooch anyway.

To the elite dude who passed me just as I was passing a runner – it would be great if the MVT were wide enough for stuff like that, but it really isn’t, and you should be elite enough to do the relative velocities in your head and plan your passes, maybe?

To the rider who told me where the nearest froyo shop was (on Fern Street) – thanks.

Me: Leisurely coming into work 2 hours late, cruising past the Kennedy Center.
You: Riding your bike on the I-66 on-ramp, headed for the TR.
Me: “Are you crazy or lost?!?”
You: Ignoring the frantically gesturing nut on the other side of fence.
Me: I hope you made it to wherever you were going in one piece.

Totally saw the dude I call “Mr. Unhinged” riding on 395N this morning heading towards the Southeast Freeway. Not on the pedestrian section of the 14th Street Bridge, on the actual bridge in the breakdown lane.

To the gentleman in the BMW trying to pass the traffic backup in the bike/bus/right turn lane on Rt 1 in Deleware – I’m sorry I was moving faster than traffic but slower than you wanted to go. So sorry. So unbelievably sorry that you couldn’t continue your little illegal maneuver through me. Thanks for the honk, though, and the profanity you yelled out your window as I passed you again when you re-entered the lane you belonged in really made my day. I hope you saw it when I turned around and laughed at you. Have a wonderful life.

So I got rear-ended on the commute home yesterday…by a runner…in the bike lane!

I was second in line waiting for a motorcade to clear 15th and Penn. When we started up with the light I signaled left and moved to turn, then suddenly felt two hands planted squarely on my back pushing me forward/down. Within a second or two worth of squealing of brakes and blurted expletives I turned to see a wee little runner looking deeply ashamed. She’d been trying to pass all the backed-up bike and pedestrian traffic outside of the bike lane and had to hit/shove me to arrest her momentum.

I think she muttered an apology but didn’t quite get the volume right with her headphones in. Whatever…thank goodness she wasn’t a big dude or I’d have gone down hard.

About 0715, gentleman running northbound on the MVT north of the Humpback wearing something that appeared to be a loin skin. Way too much flank action! I was remiss in not getting a photo.

Due to the absence of the chimp and no hollering, probably not. NPS policy probably prohibit non-human primates on the trail.
