A boo boo? Hell, that exact maneuver is one of the best reasons for running 32c or larger tires! Trail gets boogered up and you just “expedite” the whole process by bailing to the right. It helps if you yell “CYCLOCROSS!!” as you do it.
Will keep that in mind. By the by, is there any way to ELITE your profile picture? Don’t mess with the HOFF!

ParticipantYeah every now and again I will dump FAR right. And largely for similar reasons…. what I see in front of me looks so unpredictable that I would rather give those americans a wide berth.

ParticipantLittle belated but to the Arlington cop last week who slammed on the gas before looking where you were turning, you scared the crap out of me. (George Mason @ 4 Mile Run).

A truly missed connection. this morning at about 0620.
This bus took the roadway split just south of Memorial Circle to the tunnel under Mem Bridge. Realized about 250 feet too late that was a bad decision (but about 75 feet before it became a really bad decision). The other motorists didn’t seem to be particularly appreciative of the bus.
Can you imagine what it was like being the passengers in the front row on top? I’m sure they saw their lives pass before their eyes.
What I’m confounded by is the fact that this appears to be a local bus service (given the DC name on the side).

ParticipantYou: NPS SUV helpfully informing a driver that it’s not okay to drive in the bike lane, even when the driver mistakenly gets into the turn lane at 13th and 1/2
Me: The bike riding legally in that bike lane who had to quickly vacate it so you could pursue the driver.FYI, when you break traffic laws, you’re supposed to at least turn the lights on to give those driving legally in your path a bit of warning. Next time, maybe.

ParticipantMe: Riding on W&OD heading east just past N Washington Street
You: Coming up the connection to 19th street to turn onto trail heading west without looking or stopping almost causing me to t-bone you.We both made the “woah woah waoh” call. Luckily a crash was avoided, but you owe me some new brake pads.

ParticipantMe: Old yet remarkably well preserved rider heading up the Custis Trail from key bridge toward my job in Ballston.
You: super-cool guy brandishing a whistle and not afraid to use it bombing down the wrong way on the one way street part of Lee Highway 29 on the other side of the concrete divider and then bombing back onto the sidewalk, narrowly missing …. well everyone and making sure that everyone knows you are coming at 25 mph. You look and sound like a cross between an English traffic policeman, the guy hailing cabs in front of the Four Seasons and that Flying Tomato guy.
We get it. You are a man not to be trifled with. And it excites us when you fly by, but only more so because of the whistling.

Ha! THAT guy… I entered him in the Book of Ninja Styles after he scared me witless one night:
Ninjus Cyclus Bancheeus
This rare ninja rides in complete darkness until confronted with an oncoming cyclist or runner who has crossed the center line while overtaking. While remaining virtually invisible, this ninja will let loose a barrage of piercing blasts on a hand whistle in order to unsettle and perhaps disable the oncoming cyclist. This species should be considered rude and extremely dangerous and their whistle should be forcibly removed if sighted/heard.May 22, 2013 at 5:27 pm #970901krazygl00

I nominate the Bike Arlington Forum as the Website Most Likely To Cause Me To Break Out Google Maps. Sheesh, I never remember street names around here!

If you’d said Lee Highway…ok, I guess on that side of 66 it’s no longer called that…

It’s north of the fire station and therefore Arlington. It’s Lee Highway.
