Rule number 1: NEVER READ THE COMMENTS!…. bugger, and now you made me go back and read them… ruined a pretty good day! I’ll probably get a flat now too!

Think we can get an order together? 1000 for about $.55 or outdoor ones for about twice that.

Blah. I read 5 or 6 comments before finding a helmet debate that was more interesting.

ParticipantTo the gentleman on R St NW crossing 14th this morning who proved to me that you CAN pull a trail-a-bike with a CaBi: Rock on, sir.

I did this on the L Street track one morning. Sat in front of a car for three light cycles as the driver was trying to pull out into the intersection to leave the track. Not my best moment, but I had some time to kill and the passenger she was dropping off was a big-time jerk.
Reading this made my morning. I may try it now when ride home when i’m not worried about time. Maybe they’ll even be dumb enough to call the police.

ParticipantYou: Driver of the 14th St bus going southbound crossing Rhode Island NW
Me: The cyclist being a PAL in the bike lane who smacked the side of your bus when you decided to enter the occupied bike lane without yielding to me and the other PAL already there. Thanks for not killing us. Please learn to drive. It’s not like it’s a big surprise that there are cyclists in one of the most heavily used bike lanes in the city at rush hour.

ParticipantSounds like Jrenault and I had a similar morning:
You: Lady in white minivan counting you money in your lap while driving into my bike lane while I was there.
Me: The cyclist you hit leaving a mark on your door from my brake lever, followed by the dent caused by my fist.
You: Rolled down window, called me a horrible name and told me I was dangerous
Me: SpeechlessApril 4, 2013 at 2:01 pm #966555jrenaut

ParticipantI left work on N. Lynn in Rosslyn last night. 4 or 5 Arlington PD cruisers were parked in the bike lane on Lynn just before 19th. When I got to 19th, I saw a LEO picking up a road bike and putting it in the trunk of his cruiser. I overheard hims say, “I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often.” Didn’t see the cyclist anywhere. I am assuming it was an accident. Anybody hear anything?

ARLNow tweeted this last night:
UPDATE: Bicyclist was not struck by a vehicle but did fall off bike. Female victim, unconscious and being transported to trauma center.
No other info on their site. Maybe someone fell avoiding a car or bikes/peds in the tight crossing? Or even some other medical issue while riding?

ParticipantFrom where the ambulance lights were the cyclist could easily have gone down on the Metro ventilation grates that cross the bike lane there and are hard to avoid because of the buses that park there in the curb lane (partially or wholely obsuring the bike lane) and the constant traffic in the right most traffic lane. Then there are the cars turning right across the lane and jaywalkers. Not a particularly pleasant intersection all the way around. That is one block where I definitely prefer to take the lane all the way from the Lynn/Wilson intersection.

I was shocked the first time I went down that bike lane (at night no less) and saw the huge ventilation grates across the bike lane. Wow, does Arlington County know about this? was all I could say to myself.

ParticipantI’m lying if I call this a missed connection, because the motherf&$*er actually clipped my pedal. But to the driver of the silver Lexus, DC tag DK 6405, thanks for changing lanes illegally, making contact with my bike, then speeding away like it was nothing, and refusing to make eye contact as I caught up to you at the light. I sincerely hope I scratched your car when you hit me.
