So myself and the other idiots would rather “kvetch” sometimes.

Yes, we kvetch to warn others of similar behavior or situations, or because we couldn’t catch the rude person to confront them, or the transgression was very small and not worth a confrontation, or we don’t want to risk a violent encounter. or we just don’t have time because we need to get to work. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

    No no no no no.

We kvetch because if we did not, it might appear that we thought the world is fine as it is – that we ignore the exile, the destruction of the Temple, the unredeemed state of the world. By kvetching we make it clear that the world needs perfecting and that we long for the coming of moshiach. In other words the proper answer to “are you okay?” is “You don’t want to know!” Or at best “not so bad”.

That’s my point. Kvetching pretty much is pissing in your own water stream. If you want to solve the problems, solve them directly and dont do passive aggressive shit. Stop the person. Talk to them. I do it all the time. And my favorite is “well no one else has ever said anything” – and I know its true – because idiots would rather kvetch that directly get involved.

I told him several times as we progressed through the tunnel that there’s not enough room to pass. He kept on repeating “Passing on your left”. After exiting the tunnel, I stopped to point out that he should have walked his bike through the tunnel. He still didn’t care and went on to pass the runner ahead of me while crossing the bridge.

If I wanted to be passive aggressive, I would have stopped in the middle of the tunnel to make sure both my shoes were tied.

Unfortunately I don’t see any indication that NPS is working to repair the trail damage that is forcing everyone through the tunnel.

They have recently put some rip-rap just upstream of the bridge to stabilize the creek bank. But I don’t expect this to open for quite a while, since it’s part of the delayed project to upgrade the remaining parts of the trail that haven’t been rehabilitated.

Last night about 7 on the MVT, between the Gravelly Point porta potties and the Roaches Run bridge. Found a set of panniers that seem to have tired of being carried. Contents resembled what many of us carry, laptop, lunch bag, the day’s clothes, wallet and keys. Pretty much all the stuff you’d have to lose to make your night suck.

Although there was a driver’s license, there was nothing containing a phone number. Lucky that the keys had a Gold’s Gym tag and the staff at the gym were willing to contact the rider and give my phone number.

Bag with all the stuff was reunited with owner so it ended well.

Pro tip – put the info that is on your Road ID on a laminated card in your wallet (and your backpack/panniers if your wallet is elsewhere). Might cause less drama.

You are such a good person to track the owner down. :-)

You do realize that 99% of the forum readers do not get your references, right? Though I must say, this is one of the rare circumstances in which I can claim to be part of “the 1%” :)

    P.S. You mean Schneerson wasn’t … ?!

I am sorry I will try to be more clear about what “Are you okay” is referring to, in the future.

As to your other question, ever been to Crown Heights and seen all the yellow flags and bumper stickers? There is a faction that your local chabad rabbi doesn’t want you to know about, but they are seldom seen outside Brooklyn.

Ah, found something on topic. Sort of

As you have astutely pointed out in the past, each fringe community has its own vocabulary, customs and traditional garb (some with actual fringes!). I’m just saying that this forum understands Rapha more than Rashi, and that most viewers of the picture you posted would enjoy it because it shows bicycle riders but would have no idea what the word “Moshiach” on the flags means.

Clearly it refers to the person who will usher in the time when there are no cars on the streets of Crown Heights.

Edit: My apologies. On closer inspection, they are on West 10th Street. The meshichist bike lobby appears to have spread from Crown Heights to Gravesend, with their message that YES, the late Chabad Rabbi was and IS the messiah, and the even more controversial message, that you CAN bike in the street for transportation
