Do you have special pull with the folks at Giro, perhaps?

When she initially asked “what kind of shoes are those”, I replied “Louis Garneau.”

Freshbikes has a pair on the wall that I’ve salivated over for a while now. In practice I’m sure they would drive me crazy but just look at the damn things…

    Damn you, Taylor Phinney!

Over to the covet thread! I have to find the Lake (of I remember correctly) mtb hi-viz version someone was wearing on an assualt on Mt Weather.

Nice! I love/hate lake shoes. Giro is pure love. I’ve never found shoes of any kind that fit my feet better than Giro. Nothing even close. I know that’s a very personal evaluation, and pretty much no-one with human feet could benefit from that, but it still makes me happy to find shoes that make my feet so happy.

Maybe I’ll start that convo with a random person some time: “what kind of lock does that funny looking key with the buttons go in? oh a car…I almost got run over by a car just a few minutes ago. That wasn’t you was it? I like driving, but I see so many of you breaking the law and nearly killing people that I just get too scared to go out on the roads sometimes. but I’m sure YOU aren’t one of those people.”

I’m definitely going to use this.

Sometimes while I’m changing into riding clothes and shoes for the ride home from work, I’ll get the question, “You going for a bike ride?”

    Occasionally I’ll answer, “Bowling, actually.”

I don’t have a lot of friends IRL.

You: older guy on a black fixie and knickers.
Me: on a red bike with too many lights
Where: four mile run trail between the end of w&od and mvt

I didn’t hear you at all behind me – but you passed very slowly and then slowed down in front of me. We kept pace all the way to my exit in crystal city – but it would have been great to talk to you on the ride – did you have earphones in so you couldn’t hear me?

    White tires on the fixie?

I was wondering if this was you, sounds like you except for the earphones part.

The going slow part doesn’t sound like him at all.

    No earphones.

And the two times I’ve seen 1/8 on the trail, he’s been going relatively much faster than me.

Dear MPD officers with your little motorcycle motorcade (sans anything to protect), you too, have to follow the law when turning right at red. Cutting off myself and two other cyclists so five of you could just keep making a right on red was pretty obnoxious. Then again, I’ve come to expect nothing less.

    Not bike related but….

The scene: Tuesday evening, sitting in a Crystal City restaurant with my wife having a couple of drinks and good food. While seated at the window we were treated to an endless stream of joggers in various shades of neon clothing parading up and down Crystal Drive. There were so many, often in groups of 3-5, it almost seemed like there was a small unorganized 5K event going on.

To the couple who ran by with determination on your faces to finish your run strong, then 10 minutes later walked by going the other way with big Buffalo Wild Wings takeout bags – respect! I thought the “exercise your way to a restaurant with greasy food” workout plan was only a cyclist’s pleasure but I’m glad to see other people have gotten in on the action too.

I can think at least 6 restaurants where I would only ever go on a bike and the idea of driving there seems dirty somehow. Some of them I wouldn’t even know how to drive there anyway.

To the guy on a hybrid and dressed in all black who was legitimately riding 30 MPH the WRONG WAY last night in the bike lane on Clarendon Boulevard, without any lights whatsoever, who nearly killed me and another pedestrian – I hope you are turned to ash by a rain of fire and brimstone from the sky. That is all.
