This afternoon, while biking home, I was at Baileys Crossroads waiting at a red light to cross Columbia Pike going out of the shopping center that has the Trader Joe’s and Performance Bicycle. As the Columbia Pike stoplight turns yellow, I see an ambulance with sirens blaring and lights flashing is approaching from the left on Columbia Pike.
Me: (first in line as the light turns green, waits so that the ambulance can safely pass through)
You: BEEEEEP!
Me: (points over to the left at the approaching ambulance)
You: BEEEEEP! (inches forward to try and go around me)
Ambulance driver: (slows down because you were about to drive right out in front of him)
Me: (gesticulating more to draw your attention to the object with bright flashing lights and loud siren because apparently you weren’t noticing it)
Ambulance driver: (passes through intersection unscathed)
Me: (starts making a wide left turn because I know what’s coming next)
You: VROOOOOOM (as you speed around the inside of my turn)
C’mon people, there’s been less traffic for the past few days due to school being out. Can’t we all just chill a little bit and let emergency vehicles get where they need to go?
