ParticipantThere are more than a few noobs out due to Safetrack and the nice weather, and that’s cool. We were all noobs once, even me, and we made some amusing mistakes. But this lady headed for the W&OD trailhead in Shirlington had her helmet on backwards.

A few months ago, I was behind a guy on the TR Bridge, and I realized his helmet was on backwards. At the end of the bridge, I passed him and tried to politely point it out. He said that he knew and wanted it that way.

There are some FCC police that frequent Mike’s Deli on Monday morning and at least one drives an all black Charger. I bet it was the same car.
Did it look like this?? Because, this is an actual FCC enforcement car.

ParticipantOk, you want to exit off the Peremogy, I get that, but there is a clear right lane and I am continuing up and over the overpass so why are you honking at me and yelling at me in Russian. Dude, I’m riding exactly where I am supposed to! I guess you didn’t want to have to drive over the cobblestones marking the bus stop either.

Nope but… I saw the same car same place same time again today. It is a ford with gov light blue licence plates. I think he is heading home as this is the same time at the same place. This time he blasted past me in plenty of time to get past me and back over before the bollard… After hitting a single”Wo0op” of his siren to let me know he was coming on fast. (the sound of a late model V8 in full song was a clue too)

Wanna borrow my Fly12 to get evidence (and a record of the plate)?

ParticipantFish on! Caught him at a light this am. Rolled up and took a picture. This did not go unnoticed and once again on when the flashing blue lights. Polo type shirt and dockers type pants wearing driver puts it in park and gets out. Puts his best “Mister official business” face on and walks back to me asking why I took a picture of his car. Well, since you asked…….. I let him know that a couple of days ago while I was going almost the full speed limit and taking the lane this very car at about this same time of day passed me on a obscured vision corner crossing a double yellow line. The car then flipped the blue lights on and chopped back into me in order to not hit the bollard at the W&OD intersection. These actions caused me to grab 100% of my brakes and take evasive action in order not to be hit. His expression goes from Grumpy Bulldog to Oh shi! I added in that on another day he lit me with a single Woop of his siren while near the same intersection. He apologized for for the lights but then said he did it to warn me. I said the better thing to do is when he sees a bike in the middle of the lane to treat it like a car and not pass it on a double yellow. At this point the light changed and I rolled off. If I see him again and have the chance I think I will reopen the conversation is less unhappy way.

At the risk of creating thread drift, have you found a good mount? The one it came with is too large for my handlebars.

ParticipantBe careful. There are Inspector Generals in police forces for this type of situation. You may wish to go through the Inspector General.

We keep a bin of un-patchable innertubes for this very purpose — I cut a length and put it under the mount. Fits perfectly.
I’m thinking of getting a Garmin quick release mount — or a bunch of them for all the bikes — to make on/off easier.

Was not planning on further up stream action. Driver seemed a bit surprised that I was not happy with his previous actions. Had he been full of himself perhaps but I did not get that in this case. Only reason I had an inclination to speak to him further was to diffuse or better said add in some Dirt

ParticipantAs another person who rides a bike in this area, I hope you’ll report. I good IG will not only look at the individual’s actions and address appropriately, but will take the opportunity to remind others. That officer may have just been nice to you to avoid getting into “trouble”. You need reinforcing to achieve behavioral change, and a record in case something actually happens and he needs to be held accountable.

ParticipantThis afternoon on G street in Foggy Bottom
Me, in a sing-song voice: “wrong way, [censored]!”
Salmoning frat-boy on CaBi, in same voice: “[censored] off!”
Fair enough.

ParticipantNo, you can’t turn and wait to turn left in the intersection on PA Ave, blocking cyclists, to make a left turn when there is a only straight green arrow and no left turn arrow at all, dumbass.
