Somebody, for the love of god update the forum dictionary to include “Ronnie Pickering”.

ParticipantI really liked the droll tone the writer of the Ronnie Pickering article used. It was a great story, made better in the telling.

Who is Ronnie Pickering?
- I am
- A mystical being from the magical land of Narnia
- It depends who’s asking.
- Did Ronnie send you?
- The question isn’t, ‘who?’ Instead ask: ‘Why?’
- I’m sure this question came up in A-level philosophy
- We are all Ronnie Pickering

ParticipantMe: riding westbound up Wilson Blvd through Clarendon, just past 4pm yesterday
You: well-dressed gentleman hiding in SUV with tinted windows parked on the right side in the last spot before Fillmore StNice try. Your timing, albeit a hair early, would have sufficed. But your door wasn’t long enough to reach me across the white line. :p

ParticipantWoe to those who thought they could legally use a marked crosswalk and be safe today.
This morning, I witnessed a lady crossing George Mason Drive at Park Drive who had to literally put her arms up and shout, “You have to stop for me!” because some idiot SUV driver decided that they weren’t going to slow down for her when she was already in the crosswalk. She had already crossed 3 lanes of traffic (2 straight and 1 left turn) at this point, and this is a marked crosswalk (yellow signs and zebra stripes aplenty).
I’ll send an e-mail to Arlington County, but that crossing needs flashing yellow lights and/or better enforcement for pedestrian safety. (Edited: adding this) I also think there should be a pedestrian refuge for the crossing as well since it can be difficult to get both directions of traffic to be clear.

ParticipantMe: Riding EB on the Pennsylvania Ave cycletrack the other day, admiring the new curbstone thingies they finally put in to prevent illegal U-Turns in front of the Wilson Building.
You: Pig in the massive Suburban Assault Penis Substitution Machine pulling a U-turn OVER the curbstone thingies.
Screw you lady. Just, screw you.

Obviously, curbstone thingies were the wrong solution. What is needed are the tire-slashing thingies from the rental car garages at National Airport.

ParticipantYou: NB on Sherman NW, waiting at the red, clearly about to turn left before the oncoming cars get their green light
Me: Staring you right in the eye, pulling out into the intersection just before it turned green to block your dangerous and illegal BS move. You’re welcome.

ParticipantTwo for one today.
Me: Ridrer in yellow windbreaker in the bike lane, EB on Eye St SW at S Capitol.
You1: Driver in the RIGHT TURN ONLY lane to my right. No, you cannot go straight on Eye from that lane. That was a stupid, dangerous, and illegal move. I saw what you were about to do, and waited behind, but one day you may badly hurt someone
You2: Driver in the lane to my left, behind the school bus making a left turn to go NB on S Cap. I know it is annoying to wait for the bus to turn left there, but when you swing around to the right of him, you need to understand that there are bikes there – and I cannot swerve much to my right without going to the crosswalk, where there are often pedestrians and where I should not be – aside from which you could hit me before I see to swerve. Fortunately I was alert enough and there was just enough room to avoid me being sideswiped, but this was another jerk move on your part.
Evidently we still get drivers on Eye who seem oblivious to the fact that people bike in the bike lane. I look forward to new development in the area putting a lot more cyclists in the lanes, so we are harder to ignore.

ParticipantI guess Capitol Street is a zoo all over. Saw a salmon running a red light southbound, dodging cars, and headed directly towards the northbound lanes, just as we northbound folks got the green light. For a second I thought he was going to actually try to lane split against traffic, then he suddenly veered left out of the way of the northbound traffic.
Not really a missed connection because it didn’t bother me, but just one of the crazy things I see on N. Cap.
