ParticipantThat sucks. The world is full of a$$hats, and I’m sorry you had to encounter one last night, mikoglaces. Hope you’re OK and heal up quick.

Me: 50 feet back, watching you blow past the school bus, on the right, by its open door, with its flashing lights and stop sign fully engaged, honking its horn at you to stop.
Can we get the School Bus Cameras that MoCo has? Safety + Revenue = WIN!

Ok, time to vent.
Me: cyclist riding home on W&OD last night at approximately 7:30-7:45 p.m. I stopped at West Street in Falls Church and waited for cars to stop (or for no traffic) to cross in the crosswalk. When car approaching from my left stopped, I started to go after seeing that car approaching from my right was some distance away.
You: car approaching from my right. You either were driving faster than I’d calculated (and really too fast for West St.), or you actually accelerated to try to get through the crosswalk before me. Or maybe you were playing game of chicken with me. (You had to have seen me due to my lights and fact other car stopped and I crossed in his headlights.) Anyway, you won. I slammed on breaks and turned to left to keep from hitting you/being hit. I fell to the ground in the crosswalk as you drove through it. I got up and rode home, but suffered cuts and bruises and am limping due to ankle injury. Couldn’t ride today, and may be off bike for several days. We’ll see.
You won’t read this and you don’t care anyway. Just venting.
Sorry to hear that. Make and Model of the car?

Wow, so sorry to hear this happened to you and am glad you are largely ok. Very sad that neither driver stopped to see if you were ok. Sigh.

ParticipantYou: bug
Me: Cyclist along Constitution this morning, about 7:15, who inhaled you.I guess it was fate; sooner or later it had to be. But why did it have to be you?

ParticipantFriday, around 8:30am where Park St. in Vienna crosses the W&OD
Me: Unclipped on one foot and obviously slowing to a stop to wait for a clear slot to cross Park St. and head towards Dunn Loring
You: Little old lady in late 90’s Civic coming to a screeching, sliding, halt and waving me to cross from about 10 feet away
I obviously was planning on waiting for you to cross the intersection, but I appreciate the thought. Maybe just roll through next time and save your brakes.

ParticipantThis morning on 17th between K and L.
Me: I was in the second leftmost lane due to not having the room to merge further right.
You: MD driver passing me at speed by inches in the dwindling left lane due to a parked car in the lane all to get to the red light a second faster. Was that really necessary?
Me: I could have been more calm in my reaction but the finger and curses came out.
You: Screaming at me while driving away because I held you up a second or two in getting to that red light.
Calm down already.

ParticipantAs I’m approaching the crosswalk on my bike, and you’re approaching in your van, you really don’t need to honk at me. Not only can I see you coming, I can see that there’s no way you are even going to stop for me.

I’ve been thinking about this lately – I think it should be a law that any new car built must have a new feature: pressing the horn will apply the brakes proportionally to the aggressiveness of the honk. I think that would solve a lot of problems on the road.

Participant[Sigh] It is now time for me to add a story to this thread…
The setup- Yours truly has just finished up his last service call of the day and is going to pick up his wife from Ft. McNair at about 7pm. Traveling southbound on South Capitol St, 2 blocks from my turn at M St, I notice a reasonably bright flashing headlight in that direction. On the far right of the road? Yes. But going which direction? Unknown. (mindful that I have seen riders *reverse* their lights & reflectors). Approaching my right turn at M. Signal, initiate my turn-in… NOW I see the bike attached to the light- going opposite direction in the crosswalk. Shit. Straighten up, brake, both parties avoid each other. Was a guy, dark hair, no helmet, on a dark bike with minimal if any reflectors.
Dude, if you’re on the forum, I was the dark red Saturn S who almost hit you. I AM SORRY.
Now, on multiple threads elsewhere, we were talking about how hard it is to judge speed and distance of a flashing light? That’s *exactly* what happened to me!

Participantyou: my spare tube
me: Missing you. Once, we were connected. Me, on my bike. You, in my saddle bag. It was a wonderful relationship. You made me feel all safe and secure just by being there in my life. And then…I ruined everything. I was an idiot and took my bike tool out of my saddle bag this morning and forgot to close the zipper. Now, you’re all alone somewhere on the MVT. The fact you sacrificed yourself and let my C02 cartridge stay protected in the bag means alot to me, and to my wallet.
Now I just need to figure out where I put my spare-spare tube…After getting 3 flats in 6 weeks this past spring I HATE riding without a spare

You: Missing Fun Forum I used to lovelights too bright, too many ninjas, blinkies, not enough trails, too many runners, headphones, snow removal, bollards, poor signage, no warnings, too many warnings, bells, no bells, passing too close, intersections of doom, cops doing nothing, tax money wasted….. and now Kitties are a menace…
