Welcome to the forum. We all do dumb stuff sometimes. Best you can do is apologize and learn from it.

Thank you!

ParticipantMe: Excuse me, you can’t park here.
You: I’m not parking!I love this. People think that stopping a car, turning off the engine, and getting out is “not parking” if you don’t leave the car.
I missed the picture of her flipping me off. She asked as she sped off if I’d gotten a good shot. “Yes, thanks, drive safely please!”.
I also got a “thanks, man” from passing CaBi guy.

ParticipantCouldn’t a shot like this (preferably with more of the street in view) be used as evidence for a parking ticket, at the very least?

Pretty sure DC won’t ticket unless they actually see the infraction. Like how they won’t issue a moving violation without the officer seeing it unless there’s contact

…
…or a red light camera.

ParticipantI assume they treat the camera as a police officer? Or maybe because it’s revenue-generating they don’t care?
You know what would be awesome? Parking-in-the-bike-lane cameras.

ParticipantSpeaking of police officers, riding back from lunch, I watched a cyclist officer run the red at Wisconsin and Porter. He slowed, looked both ways and then went through. Not that I really care much, but I always here people whining about cops cracking down on cyclists. So I had a little chuckle of the thought of what they would say the cop doing it.

Yesterday evening my wife and I watched a group of about 10 DC bike cops blow the light on Monroe at Sherman NW. They were riding in a big bunch, 3 abreast or so.

ParticipantWell unfortunately this evening I get to add to this thread… 😡
Me: Rider merging on to the right most lane on 15th street following the end of the bike path.
You: Uniform Secret Service car, gave it just enough gas to pass me and then, without using the indicator, shifted lanes to park right after the spot in the parking lane where the bike/rickshaw guys wait for customers.
Me: Got a couple of “whoops” and claps from tourists as I demonstrated my bike handling skills with moving reverse wheelie (breaking so hard I was wheeling on my front wheel).
You: Window open, smiling, had clearly seen the entire thing from your squad car. Could not tell if it was a smirk or an embarrassed “shouldn’t have done that” look.
Me: Hyperventilating thinking just how close I was to leaving a nice facial imprint on the back of the secret service car.

GuestYou, #1: bike shorts that should have come to work with me today, so I could wear you on my lunch time ride. Why are you not here?
You, #2: regular shorts that are usually kept at work for being worn under coveralls when needed, and would have sufficed in a pinch. Why are you not here?
You, #3: Jeans, which I am wearing. I’m tempted, I really really am, but you are not only too tight in the thighs/knees for comfortable riding, I would then have to wear you all sweaty and sticky for the rest of the day, which I reluctantly conclude would not be a great idea (and my coworkers surely agree).

Participant1. You, my bike rack from the back of my car. 😡
Apparently, sometime over the past few weeks, someone liberated you from my car. We first met on Mother’s Day, 2013. I got you as a present to make our family’s bike transport package complete. To get back into riding, I knew we needed you; we could never just bike from our house!
Almost immediately we were able to get the old bikes to REI for new tires and start riding a little. We would drive out to Ashburn together to take the boys on the less-crowded W&OD and train them on trail riding. “STRAIGHT! STAY IN YOUR LANE!! NO!!”
Back into riding, I rode to work a few times last summer and loaded everyone up on you to drive to Crystal City so we could participate in the Arlington Fun Ride in October. We made it all around the Arlington Loop with your help! Wow! DKel started riding to work and bought a new bike and then another. It’s purple, bla, bla bla…
Eventually, there came a time we didn’t load you up as frequently because we would just ride from the house. Falls Church to Shirlington is really easy! Vienna Whole Foods has a bar! Hello Herndon! Hello Jefferson Memorial! Hello Leesburg!
Hilariously, in a facetious way, we were loading up the car to drive to Harrisonburg (to get in some riding; can’t ride to H’burg yet) when we realized you were gone. Sniff.
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
2. You, the cash from my wallet that disappeared as a result of the purchase of a new bike rack at REI. 😡
