You and I have very different definitions of the word “exhausted”!

ParticipantMe: Trying to use the bike lane on South Hayes near the fire station in Crystal City this evening.
You: Two bus drivers from Victory Tours that (according to a driver) didn’t want to park next to the curb because the trees might scratch the bus.Really? If you are afraid the trees will rub against the bus, please protect the tree by parking somewhere else! Might be time for the police to include parking to far away from the curb to the list of things they enforce.
Not blocking a automobile traffic lane doesn’t mean you aren’t blocking traffic.

I couldn’t tell who because I was drunk. I wasn’t upset. I thought it was unintentional. The ride had a fine bunch of people without exception. Really mean it.

That bus was there around 1:30. I guess the driver didn’t want to pay the parking charges back by the shopping mall.

Note, I also ride a Pistola, but not very good with the rockets, so you probably won’t confuse us.

Did someone report this to the ACPD nonemergency number? Can you, please? They claim they target enforcement based on those complaints.

AS I spoke with the drivers and they seemed uninterested in my concerns, I called the ACPD non emergency number. The drivers pulled away and the ACPD operator said that there was nothing they could do because the busses were gone. I insisted they log the call and will pursue this with THE BAC liaison from the ACPD.

I can’t speak for Arlington per se, but I do know that reports of this nature do get treated seriously in Alexandria, at least. Over the course of a few years, we had ongoing problems with a a delivery vehicle that parked illegally in the alley way next to our apartment building for hours at a time. After other avenues to address the situation failed (speaking directly to the driver, reporting the driver to the vendor he worked for), my wife eventually called the Alex. PD non-emergency number a few weeks ago. An officer was there within minutes and the delivery vehicle now parks legally in the street. I guess some people just don’t listen unless you’re carrying a badge and a gun.
Point being, do call and report these types of things if you have the time. It does work…

It seems a lot of PDs are moving towards (or at least paying lip service to) being more “data driven”. In talks with the ACPD liaison to the BAC, we’ll say “we hear a lot about problems at location X” and the liaison will look into and they claim they don’t have any reports in their log about location X. Hence why I bug people here about it. If the issue is that calls aren’t getting logged, then we can address that. If the issue is that they’re getting logged by ACPD isn’t looking at the log, we can address that another way. But we’ve got to figure out where the problem is.
Which reminds me, I need to log some of the issues I’ve seen along the Custis sidewalk.
Oh, and dbb did the right thing by asking for his call to be logged.

You’re a very patient person! Just FYI, tire boots are so cheap as to be almost disposable.

ParticipantPatience lasted as long as it was only a minor nuisance.
Over time, the principle of the matter combined with more frequent midday outings by my wife and kid in car (alley is one of two ways out of our building’s small 4-spot parking lot where we sometimes park) and idling truck noise just a couple feet outside our apartment interfering with cyclingfool, jr.’s naps took it from minor nuisance to bigger nuisance and led to action. We’re patient, non-confrontational folks, but only for so long.

ParticipantMe: Riding east on Pennsylania Avenue approaching 17th, in the lane second from the left preparing to go straight across and past the bollards in front of the White House.
You: A the passenger in a black SUV (probably with Maryland plates) in the second lane from the right, changing lanes directly into me without warning or signal, planning to turn left.
Me: “Watch it,” shouted loudly to get the driver’s attention and prevent him from driving into me.

ParticipantMe: Riding behind 2 Metropolitan Police cyclists riding side-by-side in the L Street cycletrack
You: Purple shirt (my favorite color) wearing cyclist salmoning in the L Street cycletrack right at us
Metropolitan Police cyclists: (see you, do nothing)
Me: Right after you passed by, I shrugged because I expected the police cyclists to say something, anything, you know, because the L Street cycletrack is one-way and you were going the wrong way. Also, don’t do dumb things while wearing my favorite color (additional pet peeve). My only explanation for this: they had bigger fish to fry.

ParticipantWhy are there so many cyclists going the wrong way on the L and M St. cycletracks? The tracks are clearly marked as one-way, and these people can see bike traffic headed right into them in the narrow track. And yet they still go the wrong way in the cycletracks. It’s not that hard to head one block north or south to go in the other direction.
