ParticipantMissed connection from this morning on virginia lane. This has happened to me twice. I take the lane because I’m doing the speed limit but still get passed.

ParticipantBe sure to let state senator favola know about your problems least she get all her advice from the Loudoun County sheriff’s office again!

ParticipantThe key to the Virginia Lane interaction is to take the curve at a sufficiently high speed that the car can’t maintain control. It works at the bottom of Woodside Road in California.

ParticipantGood Morning Mr. Light Blue Honda CRV driver, I would appreciate it if you didn’t honk and swirve at me on Abingdon Lane in north OT. For one thing, you nearly hit me and you had to hit your brakes hard because no surprise the traffic backs up the hill before the merger onto the GWP–noticable as I passed you once I entered MVT hookup there. Your crass I own the road attitude is only outdone by the fact that it was just you in your car in an HOV lane. Lucky for you, I did not see the cop who sometimes sits on Slaters Lane right there and that I only hocked a small loogie as I rode by as my parting gesture (my inner-Dirt failed me).

15th southbound is just miserable. The light timing is (obviously) for cars going north so you hit pretty much every red light going south.
15th Street southbound is the worst. I avoid it unless I’m making a video depicting why I avoid it (http://youtu.be/mXcBqJ74bxI).

If someone had passed me on the bridge this AM, I would have said it was probably me, but I only saw cyclists going the other way on the bridge today.
Speaking of bridges, I took the TR Bridge to mix things up after Monroe hunting last night for the side challenge. Chapeau to those of you that do that bridge every day. I prayed the whole time crossing that there would not be anyone coming in the opposite direction — and I am a very non-religious man. Fortunately my prayers were answered, but am I glad I take the 14th St Bridge as part of my regular route instead.

I cross the TR every day. Thankfully, in the winter the odds of my crossing paths with another person on the bridge are about 1 out of every 15 commutes (so 30 crossings, I guess). I actually had a couple people behind me today, which is a more common occurence, but still only happens maybe once a week and pretty much exclusively going eastbound in the AM.
Edit: just looked at Strava…in roughly the last year, I have 162 eastbound crossings, and 116 westbound.

ParticipantOne time I crossed roosevelt bridge with Tim Kelly, he rode alongside and chatted most of the way across. Crossing TR with TK is not for the faint of heart.

ParticipantI rode Custis with TK last night! He didn’t leave me in the dust but I think he was taking it easy

ParticipantDear fast people: Could you please have the courtesy to pretend that you are exerting yourself when you pass me like I’m standing still? Maybe you could gasp for breath or grunt or something? Thank you.

ParticipantTo the guy who zoomed past me in the BMW SUV on R street today: Thanks so much for the extra workout I got today when you sped around me and then stopped at every speed hump. I was way impressed with the acceleration of your awesome expensive German-engineered vehicle while I practiced track stands. FYI: I read a recent paper that proved that people that drive BMWs tend to be a$$holes.

The trick is to save the gasping and wheezing until well past the passee.

ParticipantAbout 9:15pm on the MVT this evening. Right near the crossing for the GW Parkway on-ramp on the south side of the airport. I was going north; you, south.
Were you talking to me? Or yourself?
If you were talking to me, why? It didn’t sound anything like “nice evening for a ride”, so I have to assume you were complaining about something, and now well after the fact I’m really curious as to what it could have been about…
Truth is, at the time I didn’t hear what you said and didn’t care enough to actually find out. Not to mention I was a little startled to hear a voice coming at me from behind an anonymous, dim headlight.
