Where is dogsled guy when you need him?
Last night coming down the MVT between the bridges and Gravelly Point, I addressed an oncoming cyclist with a strobe flashing (he also had a steady light on) by saying “No flash please!”
He responded, “bite me”
Do you think animal control would give that one a pass for dogsled guy because of the cyclist’s volunteer status?
So we have run into the same guy. I normally don’t comment on the strobe/non-strobe issue, but that thing was retina-searing!

Every morning and every night I see people with strobes on the trail. This causes all other trail users to be distracted and not be able to see. Accidents will happen because of this scenario and people will be hurt

Is there anything we can do other than yell?
I always squeeze a little shot of water out of my water bottle to clear the end of road grit before taking a drink. Timing is everything. Just sayin’

ParticipantMe: Biking counter-clockwise around the Cherry Lane / Greenbelt Metro circle.
You: Driving a sedan clockwise around the circle, then driving down the wrong side of Greenbelt Metro Drive. That was… crazy. Eventually you figured out something was wrong, and used the crosswalk to cross over the median.

ParticipantHad a close encounter while riding near FedEx Field during the Cider Ride yesterday:

Note: for the record, I slowed to about 3.2 mph (walking speed) according to Strava at the stop sign, so no, I didn’t technically stop, but yes, I stopped in a safe manner because I was able to adjust to seeing the van who ran his stop sign.

ParticipantMe. riding on Gallows Rd in the bike lane.
You burgundy mini van turning right who felt the compelling need to stop 1/2 the way into the turn for no visible to me reason thus giving me the choice of doing a stoppie and then going over the bars and running it out or cleaning the road salt off the side of your van with my face and upper torso.
Thanks for two things.
1. The nice dent in my kneecap from hitting some hard bit on my bike while going over the top and costing me 30 min to re-true the rear wheel on the 29er.
2. For delaying me just the right amount of time that I ended up sharing the trail with Hozn for a little bit of the W&OD.I’ll call it even.

ParticipantYou: Tow truck parked in the road with the bed lowered all the way down to the road.
Me: Wistfully avoiding the temptation to bike up the ramp.December 13, 2013 at 1:09 am #988428Vicegrip

Thanks, the pleasure was all mine. Planning on building a whole non road bike. I hope to pick the collective brain power of the BA gang for sure. Real close to S-1 right now but I plan on pulling out the “It is a matter of safety” ploy sometime in the new year. Ned to be careful not to trigger a “Why don’t you just drive the truck you already own that has been sitting?” Then i would have to go all metaphysical mumbo-jumbo with all the head space and trail magic stuff that non riders don’t get. (or just get what I want out of the side $ slush fund, get it dirty and call it a Craig’s list “find” )

Shouldn’t the driver you encountered today be paying some $$ towards a new bike right about now?????

Komic klutz like actions on my part prevented contact. The bike did a flip and tumble while I came off and ran it out. Seems that one wheel ssoppies are not my strong suit just yet.
