What levers did you use? Was it hard to get them to work with the standard v-brakes?
Tektro RL520s. Since they’re designed to pull more cable and work with v-brakes, it was as easy as pie!
I had these on my Surly as well, which I’d also set up with v-brakes. The combination is great.
There’s also a practically identical (as far as I can tell) offering from Cane Creek that accomplishes the same thing for $20 more for a set of levers. Only difference is the branding and the texture of the brake hood.
Of course, it’s only a workable solution if you don’t want brifters and/or are ok with bar end, stem, or down tube shifters. If you do want STI, then the aforementioned travel agents are the solution.

Come on, DCV, talk to these folks about brakes.
No brakes. Can’t stop, don’t want to.

Participant1) You: Two guys standing in the middle of the bike lane at 13th and PA NW, taking pictures down PA Ave
I never said I own the country, but you’re right, you own it just like I do. That doesn’t give you the right to block the lane and be an a****le to the cyclist legally using the lane and not being rude when he tells you that you’re standing in the road.I just couldn’t say anything to him. His response to “You’re standing in the middle of the road” was “Yeah, so?”. I just can’t deal with that lack of logic. Side note: Can we PLEASE get rid of the pedestrian islands in the middle of the bike lane? Please?
2) You: Clueless cycllst crossing 15th NW at T against the light
Me: The cyclist with the green, taking the right lane because the cycletrack is a cluster****
You are DARN LUCKY the ringer for my bell broke right as I tried to ding angrily at you. Darn lucky.September 19, 2013 at 7:30 pm #981769baiskeli
ParticipantHey, cabbie who U-turned right in front of two cyclists across on Penn. Ave. going the opposite direction from me. You were smart to cut down a side street. If you had continued on Penn. I would have chased you down and made sure you understood my viewpoint on the matter.

I used these on my hybrid-to-SS conversion. Happy with them too. When I get around to swapping in a CX fork I have (thanks hozn!) I’m going to experiment with v-brakes instead of cantis.

ParticipantHas anyone seen Mr. Backwards man? My wife and I were in Clarendon at the Apple store and saw this guy that rode his bike backward. At first we thought it was just something he was doing as a joke but we were riding behind him in traffic for well over a mile. Just crazy. Dude rode hands free most the way and was just booking it.

ParticipantMe: Riding eastbound on PA Ave NW coming out of Georgetown just before the red light at 26th St. I had recently gotten in the left hand lane to prepare for a left hand turn.
You: Patriot Cab (#35) driver who decided to completely cross the double yellow lines to drive on the wrong side of the road to pass me even though you were driving directly into oncoming traffic that was turning left from 26th onto PA Ave heading towards Georgetown.Look, I get that you might not realize the left hand lane was the legal and proper place for me to be at the time, but maybe honk*, yell*, or use one of the other multiple legal lanes next time instead of going all salmon-crazy. And the light was red, I caught up to you about 3 seconds later.
*I am not advocating drivers honking and yelling, but would have preferred it in this situation.

You: “So you had beers with all those cyclists Thursday night, and then 12 hours later you have coffee with them?!?!? That’s stupid.”
Me: “Yes, dear” 😎 (eagerly hopping on my saddle to get to the morning caffeine).

Well, you needed the caffeine and stimulating conversation this morning to counter the effects of yeast and carbohydrate ingestion and mind numbing babble from the previous evening.
