When I hear shouts from drivers that I’m blocking traffic, I sometime think that the only way I could do that is if my bike was perpendicular to the flow of traffic. Maybe those drivers had encountered you before. There’s a nice, but parking lane on the other side of the road…you couldn’t go the extra 10 feet to stand there?
Cyclists and runners stop right on the path to chat, tie their shoes, fix flats, whatever, all the time, totally oblivious to everyone else on the path. makes me nuts.

That may explain the completely flat bunny in the bike lane on Lee Hwy in Cherrydale this morning. I was very skeptical a bike could have done that.
One bike can’t, but 40 or 50 can.

Yeah, me too. Just last week I suggested to some dude who decided to stop and check his phone on the trail with his back to the crosswalk on great falls that maybe he could find a better place to stop. Why would people not want to be stuck in the road behind a space cadet?

ParticipantMe: Coming out of the Giant on Monroe Avenue in Del Ray around 10 PM last night.
You: The nice guy who gave me and my bike props. “Nice conversion,” you said (of my MTB turned drop bar touring/commuter bike)
Thank you again for the compliment. It made both me and my bike happy.

What levers did you use? Was it hard to get them to work with the standard v-brakes?

ParticipantYou should be able to use any old style lever. Many older touring bikes have canti brakes.
I use these: http://www.niagaracycle.com/categories/pyramid-road-aero-bicycle-levers-pair
Sorry… My bad. I don’t know whether cyclingfool’s bike had cantis or v-brakes. If he stuck with cantis, he could have just used regular old levers.

FWIW, I’m actually in the middle of converting my commuter from cantis to v-brakes (Avid SD-7s, just like cyclingfool’s). Just waiting on a little gizmo called a “travel agent” which fixes the cable pull issues. With Tiagra 10sp levers, it’s workable right out of the box (although I’ve read that older levers don’t work as well), but the levers almost bottom out and I’d like to have a much firmer brake feel. I’ll take some pics when it’s done, if you’re interested.
