ParticipantYea! This thread ran right past a row of stopped cars containing coffee stained shirt wearing cell phone blue faced drivers and to the front where the funny was waiting. Thanks.

ParticipantI almost forgot my “missed connection” post for today!
To the fine gentleman motorist stopped in the crosswalk on fairfax at glebe:
I’m sure you felt no remorse when I had to leave the crosswalk to get around your car. You didn’t stop yakking to your passenger, though neither of you would meet my glare. I do hope that you felt the intense personal shame that you should have when I had to stop on the other end of the crosswalk to help the blind man who was trying to use the same crosswalk.
The discerning reader may gain some insight into why my tolerance for social normalization of illegal and anti-social behavior by motorists was especially low today.

Except that I’m going to point out that dasgeh’s a JERK because she merges into traffic at a later point than I do.
That’s actually faster and safer…

Yep. Pedestrians have a serious dislike of on-curb standing.

ParticipantThis might not qualify as a “missed connection”.
You were very apologetic when we both stopped at the 7-11 on Gallows/Electric, the only problem is that I wasn’t planning on turning there until your car struck me on the foot. Next time please check your mirrors before turning across a bike lane.

http://www.drmomentum.com/aces/archives/003800.htmlNo, it’s faster and safer to merge in at the point I choose; everyone else should have merged in at the same point and should not go past me. Are you new to roads?

I think the question amounts to whether cyclists should filter so that they can shoal cars. If the road makes it difficult for cars to pass cyclists, then I would call this shoaling. We have a thread suggesting that some forum posters consider shoaling at “legitimate beef” when done to other cyclists. Why would it be surprising that some drivers have a similar view of cyclists shoaling them?
I’m sure they do.
So, the old axiom applies, if you can’t beat them, join them.
My beef with shoalers is only those whom go slower than me after shoaling me. From a driver perspective in traffic, I would care less because trying to beat them would be racing from red-to-red for me.

ParticipantBecause this thread needs some positive feelings (which I can’t believe I’m saying based on what the topic of the thread is supposed to be)
You: Freshbikes jersey on the west side of Hains Point doing intervals or something
Me: The cyclist you passed politely as I was draggingThanks for getting my a$$ in gear. I had been keeping up a pretty good pace up until I turned the corner, and trying to keep up with you snapped me out of the pace I’d dropped down to. Hope your ride went well.

ParticipantMe: Happily biking back to work after a meeting that was really an interview, enjoying the beautiful day, making pretty good time on a CaBi on Constitution (moving at least as fast as the cars, so on the street for a few blocks).
You: Light blue convertible with a cute dog in the back, MD plates 8BZX97, honking and screaming at me to “move over”
, then passing me entirely too closely, almost hitting me and the car in the next lane, only to stop at the next red. Sigh. I was not the reason you couldn’t drive 50 mph westbound on Constitution in the middle of the day. I started to get upset that you were such a jerk. Then I realized to be so upset over something you couldn’t control on such a beautiful day indicates that your life is your punishment.

I had a similar (though much less infuriating) situation yesterday afternoon at the crosswalk on the southern side of Glebe Rd/Route 50.
To the driver in the left lane of northbound Glebe who was stopped in the crosswalk because she did not want to block the intersection (it was green, but traffic was backed up so she was not able to cross onto the bridge), not realizing that she was completely blocking the crosswalk at the pedestrian refuge when her light turned red:
While you made sure not to “block the box” which is a good thing, you should have stopped before, not on, the crosswalk. I do appreciate that your passenger alerted you to the presence of a cyclist (me) and a pedestrian legally crossing with our now green light (crosswalk button was broken, I will report that) who you were completely blocking and that you eventually moved out of our way, but you ended up moving forward into the intersection (thus blocking the box which you previously tried to avoid) instead of going in reverse (you had space).
I didn’t say/do anything (I was in Dirt-mode and also making sure traffic entering southbound Glebe from eastbound Route 50 wasn’t going to run me over), but you looked completely like you had no idea where you were in regards to any of those big thick fancy painted lines at the intersection. It was a carnival of errors.

ParticipantTo the ACPD sitting at the intersection of S Four Mile Run and Walter Reed: Thanks for keeping everyone on their best behavior!
To the southbound dude in the Penn State Jersey on the MVT who threaded the needle: Poor choice.

I thought about it, but I was at my office, and needed to get back to work. Alas. But I totally would have slowed clapped. Or pet his dog and talked about what a lovely day it was.

Some people are just miserable assclowns that need to make everyone else around them miserable. Good on you for not giving them that satisfaction.

ParticipantYou can always pull out your camera and take a picture of the jerk. The transformation from anonymous jerk to potential youtube-sensation seems to communicate to people that they have wandered off the map.
