    Has anyone ever biked this route? I am considering it as a regular bike commute but its unclear to me whether it is viable.

    Definitely viable. The easiest route would be on the sidewalk on Benning Rd to the Anacostia Trail, then to the 11th Street Bridge, then right across the the Navy Yard. Apart from Benning it can all be done on trails.
