ParticipantAnd if all goes well, a new cargo bike will make it’s debut at this ride. You know you want to be there!

ParticipantOh, and does anyone have contact info (preferably email) for LBS’s? I have Tri360.
At least some of our riders found out about us from an LBS (BiKentic), and I’d like to start emailing the shops about the rides.

ParticipantOh, and for the official July ride (July 21st 9am), we are going to do the longer loop from Virginia Highlands (near Pentagon City). This loop hits pretty much the best Arlington has to offer a kid: views of the airport, Gravely Point (plans!) a shady ride along the river (boats!), a jaunt through a marina, the LBJ Memorial and even a ride around the Pentagon!
To top it all off, we’ll end up at Arlington’s newest sprayground!
We’re meeting early – 9am – to beat the heat. Luckily, the sprayground turns on at 10am, so we should be there not long after it comes on.
Come one, come all, tell your friends!

ParticipantIs everyone getting excited for Sunday? Yesterday, I reconned the ride, and it’s going to be AWESOME – fire station, airport, landing planes, river, shade, bridges, boats, marina, pine forest, wooden bridge, Pentagon, tunnel and SPRAYGROUND. Seriously, when is the last time you had all of that in one ride?
Two questions:
1. My plan is to take the ride through that tunnel from the Pentagon Parking lot to the parking lot on the north side of Army-Navy (it’s at the end of the updated route). There is a big “DISMOUNT BIKES” sign outside the tunnel. I rode through twice yesterday and no one blinked an eye, but a big group might get more attention. Do you think I’ll have a problem taking the group through there?(Note: This really is the best option — there’s a light at the parking lot to cross Army-Navy, and from the light we can get on the little road beside the mall, avoided Army-Navy and most of Hayes, and lots of construction. Every other option has a lot of construction, entrances/exits for 395 and/or Costco, right when it opens).
2. Can anyone volunteer to help? I suspect we’ll have a bigger group, and it would be helpful to have a few people who know the route (I’ll have cue sheets) and can marshal the group if/when we get split up (you can totally do this with a kid on the bike). It would also be great if someone could take pictures, especially in the more picturesque parts of the ride (Gravely Point, along the river) (probably a job for a kid-less cyclist, who can ride up ahead of us).

The only people that use the tunnel would be people with business at the pentagon but not parking passes for the pentagon. On a sunday morning I think it will be deserted, that said we should probably ride single file.
I do plan to ring my bell a lot though!

ParticipantI looked at the route, looks great! Just remember that after the humpback bridge it is a looping right turn around the Navy/Marine memorial (seagulls on waves) to get to the marina, not a left as your route shows.
See you there.

Good point – I think Ride With GPS did that automatically. Odd. Thanks for pointing it out – it’s fixed.

ParticipantSort of last minute, but I just realized that I don’t know a “wife-who-is-semicomfortable-with-towing-kid” friendly route from the VRE station on Crystal Drive to Hayes park (coming from Clarendon I figure that the MVT is the safest way to get to crystal city). Any suggestions? The mighty google has us coming up 15th… in front of CostCo… on a Sunday…Is 18th to Hayes better?
